Guest guest
Kim- I don't have the answers to your questions but I just wanted to support your decision to go with the BPD/DS instead of the RNY. I think it will be worth it in the end for whatever trouble you have to go through to switch. Good luck and welcome to the group. ) -Sherry (Lake Marcel, WA) BPD/DS Feb. 2, 2001 self-pay 5'5 " / 338 pounds / 33 years old Lost 9 pounds in pre-op weight loss efforts Have lost 73 pounds since surgery! Guest guest
Hi Kim, My name is Angel and I live in Newark Ohio just one hour east of Columbus. I don't know what insurance you have, but you could check and see what Doctors (surgeons) are " in-network " with your insur co. I WOULD'T tell them why yet. If Dr. Hess' name is on the list, by all means contact him and tell him what you want and let him take care of the paperwork. There is also a Dr. Maguire in Kettering Ohio (my surgeon) his toll free number is 1-. He offers self pay too if insur won't approve you. Either of these surgeons are top notch! Be aware though that they are heavily booked and you may have to wait awhile to get in. Tell Kim at Dr Maguire's office that you are all ready approved for the RNY and when you have to have the surgery by and she'll help you out(if you decide to use Dr Maguire). And yes you may have to go through more testing. But if you're lucky, maybe the Dr will accept whatever you've all ready had done. It's their decision. I know the DS is the right surgery for me, I don't blame you for wanting to switch from the RNY (although that's a good surgery, I like the features of the DS better). Good luck and I wish you the best! There have been people out there who have decided on the DS being done after being approved for the RNY. ME for one! Let me know how it goes. Also there is Dr. Mcquire in Kettering. It may take you a little longer to get your surgery since you are switching to the BPd/DS, but remember you have to live with this for the rest of your life. I would contact a surgeon first and let them contact the insurance. Dawn Dr. Hess, Bowling Green, OH BPD/DS www.duodenalswitch.com 267 to 165 size 22 to size 10 have made size goal, weight goal may need to be adjusted. no more high blood pressure, sore feet, or dieting! Guest guest
Hello, My name is Stefany. I was approved also for the lap RNY at Ohio State too. I changed my mind and decided the DS was the best route for me. A lady at my insurance co (Medical Mutual of Ohio) told me I couldn't do that but then I found out she was wrong! The dr had to submit something saying the DS was better for me personally and they are changing it. I am going to the same Dr. Angel is. Dr. Maguire. He is located in Kettering Ohio. I live in Portsmouth (actually Sciotoville) so I am about 2 hours away from him. I have not had the testing done at Ohio State so I can't answer that question for you but you can change your mind. Ask for Kim if you decide on Dr Maguire and tell them your situation and let their office contact your insurance company instead of you! Good Luck, Stefany PS With the DS You don't have to go to a nutrionist, just the consult, psyc evulation and the tests and bloodwork you have done at drs office 2 weeks before surgery. Newbie here. > Hi all > > I am a person who just got approval today in Columbus Oh at Ohio > State University for a lap RNY.
