Guest guest
Hi Kathy~ This sounds intriguing to me as Dairy Products are my single favorite food group. But, I have a question: is 'rennet' used as a digestive aid? What is its history that inspired you to consider it? I've never heard of it and don't understand how something made from the stomachs of veal would be something you would think of for lactose intolerance. I use Dairy Care once a day. It's so much more convenient than using Lactaid every single time I want to east something with lactose in it. The real problem is when I'm eating a non-dairy product that has lactose. Anyway, tell me more about Junket. I don't understand if it's a diet aide or what. What is it sold as? Thanks. hugs, gobo " Sometimes We Never Know How We Influence the Lives of Others, Yet We Touch Those Lives Just the Same " > Hi Joe, > > Junket is a brand of rennet, a substance that is made from the stomachs of veal > and is the part of their stomach that curdles milk and makes it digestible to > them. Guest guest
Dear Cath: This isn't about what you suggested the rennet for but as an interesting side note. I am 53 (feel 33 most days) and I remember my mother making an ice cream, (ice milk actually but as a child what did I know) and she made it in an ice trey without the innards to make cubes and she used a product called Junket and it came in Vanilla and Chocolate and it had rennet in it also. I am sure know one but me even knows what I am talking about but your post jarred my memory, we use to always have it in the freezer in the summer. Guest guest
Caroline, Yes its still out there! In a little cardboard box, (white, light blue, and red). Junket rennet tablets. Junket also makes a dessert mix that is very fruity (strawberry or raspberry flavored) red stuff and gets clear when you cook it. You can use it to make a strawberry pie, but it is a cornstarch based item and has NO rennet type properties. Kathy in Arlington
Guest guest
Hi Tiger, Yes I remember that too! It tasted like and had the consistency of a fudgescicle. Kathy in Arlington
Guest guest
The Albertsons store in my area does carry it, also the Publix grocery stores. Guest guest
Ya know, I have a vague memory of my grandma using Junket/rennet for something-- I thought it had something to do with making preserves or jelly. Can't quite pull the memory together..... nan E. --- IWriteOnTwo@... wrote: > Dear Cath: > > This isn't about what you suggested the rennet for but as an interesting > side note. > I am 53 (feel 33 most days) and I remember my mother making an ice cream, > (ice milk actually but as a child what did I know) and she made it in an ice > trey without the innards to make cubes and she used a product called Junket > and it came in Vanilla and Chocolate and it had rennet in it also. > I am sure know one but me even knows what I am talking about but your post > jarred my memory, we use to always have it in the freezer in the summer. > > Huggles, > Tiger > __________________________________________________
