Which WL procedure is best-and why?

I know that everyone on this list had the same type of surgery. I would like

to know why this was preferred over others? The losses I am reading are

impressive and if I can ever have the surgery, I would like to make the right

choice when picking the procedure. Also what were the cons of the other types

of WLS?

Thanks,

Mark ,

For me the cons of RNY:

Late Regain of weight

Stoma Blockages

Marginal Ulcers

Nausea

Vomiting

No sugar

Eating only 2 oz. at a time

Living on supplements

IMHO, in a few years (up to 5) the DS surgery will be accepted as

" The Gold Standard " . BTW, since my surgery on 1/23/01 I have had none

of the above. (Except eating very little first 2 weeks postop.) I

have also not had diarrhea and have less gas than preop. I have 2

BM's in the am and that's it for the whole day.

Mark:

In my mind there are two major reasons for the DS over the RNY, the only other surgery I would have considered. First is that the DS works better. The weight loss is better and it tends to stay off better and is harder to "eat around." Secondly, the quality of life is FAR better. I can eat absolutely anything I want. Just not very much of it. And I don't absorb much of what I do eat. That's the reason in a nutshell. If you want details I'm sure you can get them here on the list. I'd recommend your reading for a month or so and you'll pick up a LOT. Or go to the web site and read the back messages for a month or so.

Regards.
