Guest guest
I've been told that any animal protein about the size of a deck of cards has about 30 grams of protein. Guest guest
I'm 3 months out and I can eat pretty much close to 60 grams of protein a day. Only use supplements occasionally merely for convenience sake. Kathleen F Open Duodenal Switch Drs. I've always been able to get that in (mainly from dairy in the first three weeks with protein supplements - bars and shakes). THen, I was (and still am) up to 80 gms/day from three weeks post-op. I often will hit over 80 gms/day. I usually do have a shake sometime in the day (usually in the am) to make the 80 gms, though. I get about 60 gm without difficulty from food. all the best, laparoscopic BPD/DS with gallbladder removal Dr. Gagner/Dr. Quinn assisting/Mt. Guest guest
So when using that as a thought, I would imagine that after a few months, when the swelling goes down, and you are able to eat a bit more, you might be able to get that 60 grams in a day, or maybe close to it???? Without the help from a supplement! Would that be right?

Guest guest
Hi , The first month you should try to hit 60 but after that I was told between 80 to 100. I am 4 months out and I eat anywhere from 80 to 128 daily. I measure and I write everything down so I make sure I hit it. I will let you know if it paid off because today I am heading into N.Y. to get my big bloodwork done. Ellen(Pam)

Guest guest
- After my surgery I ate every 2 hours (a little bit at a time) and I was able to do okay on my protein. I ate alot of tuna, eggsalad, eggs, chopped liver-I put eberything throught the food processor, I ate alot of lentil soup, etc. I had good iron and protein. I drank alot of water, hot tea and gatorade. Also V8 juice. I sipped slowly. I ate over and hour each meal. You will do just fine. Guest guest
Dear , As a guide, here are the following basic measures of protein grams: (The nutritionist at Dr. Ren's, Barrie Wolfe, gave me these guidelines): 1 oz. of meat, chicken or fish = 7 grams protein 1 cup of milk = 8 grams of protein 1 cup of skim plus = 11 grams of protein 2 eggs with 1 oz. cheese = 21 grams of protein 2 tblsp. peanut butter= 8 grams protein The deck of cards rule for the animal proteins is good since a deck of cards= 3-4 ounces depending on your " eye " . Good Luck, Jane J. > To the post-ops, I am curious to how much protein you need in a daily basis, > I think I read that it was 60 grams, but I am wondering just to get an idea, > I don't have a book to go by...(yet)...LOL But say for example if you were > eating it all in food, and no supplement, how much quantity would you have > to take in, just using a variety of everyday types of foods, > > eggs > chicken > beef > peanut butter.....etc. > > in Pa.
