Guest guest
Bug, Do you mean that you retain too much or that you have problems retaining? I used to retain too much and had to self cath for a couple months (that was a few years ago). I am now having issues with retaining. It is like the bladder muscles have become very weak. My PCP is sending me to the urologist tomorrow. They think the first time it was due to the 3 surgeries I had within 2 months, this time they think it could be mito related. Sorry I am not of much help! Smiles, a On Thu, 27 Jan 2005 00:13:20 -0000 " venomvw " umhkyfan@...> writes: Does anyone have problems with urinary retention ? Guest guest
Thanks guys. I'm retaining urine (as much as 500 cc's) and the neuro said it couldn't be related to the mito. I remembered someone saying that they had a neurogenic bladder (retention) and they also have mito. Just wondering if this was possibly related. I don't really trust my neuro doc's knowledge of mito since she always says my symptoms are related to the lupus and the lupus doc says they're related to the mito ! I swear they're all idiots. bug
Guest guest
Hi Bug, Yes, I retain too much. And I also get bladder spasms. They are horrible. My Mito Doc says it is related to Mito and wants me to see a urologist. Ann-Marie Urinary retention Does anyone have problems with urinary retention ? Guest guest
Dr. S feels mine is most likely related, but the urologist didn't think so, but of course he didn't know anything about mito. Dr. S wanted me to go to someone else, but my HMO prevailed. What your docs are really saying is " WE DON'T HAVE A CLUE " . venomvw wrote: >Thanks guys. Guest guest
Anne Tramposh, the PT, was diagnosed with a neurogenic bladder and was using self-catherization several times a day. Not sure if she is still a member, as she doesn't post. I have some retention / leakage due to weak muscles---not strong enough to empty completely, not strong enough to prevent leakage with pressure, coughing, sneezing, etc---- but I also have interstitial cystitis that causes chronic symptoms similar to UTIs. So mostly I blame the IC for my bladder symptoms. However, my nephrologist thinks my IC is due to metabolic imbalances in the urine, so they may all be related. Who knows?? Guest guest
Thanks for sharing that info. I'm debating whether or not to see a urologist at this point. bug
Guest guest
I haven't had this problem too much, but I know after I have surgery, my body produces urine very fast. Like, normal is 1 mL/minute, and my bladder was filling up 1,000 mL in an hour. I happened to have a very nice nurse who consented to do several one-time catheterizations to drain the urine, even though protocol was to put in a Foley (ow!) after the second time within two hours. I know when our pets have problems with urine retention, we generally have to end up palpating their bladders a few times a day. I think in several of their cases, we believed they had some level of pain that was causing the urine retention... Has anyone tried to take a lot of acidophlius for this condition? The only other times I've had this were when I had a bad yeast infection (ow again!)... Take care, RH > > Thanks for sharing that info.
