Guest guest
Alyssa, When only three or four days into the diet I started cooking things in coconut oil and using it in the egg/fruit muffins I was making because I knew it was a good fat for my boys, who were dreadfully thin. Now, with the research I have been doing I have come to realize I may have killed two birds with one stone by keeping it in my kids daily diets they haven't had many major die-offs, but have had many very small ones. This is better in a way, less disruptive and it was summer so they had a day or two nearly every week they felt punky and sat around watching tv and the next day or two I would start to see improvement in some area. It is amazing to look back at it now. I was too much in the soup to see the pattern then. I think the coconut oil in smoothies, in pancakes, as cooking oil, in muffins...in small amounts a lot of places...encouraged a steady rate of hostility to the bad stuff and hospitality to the good stuff. Of course, this is all conjecture but they are doing GREAT and I think coconut oil is partially to thank for that. Additionally they have REALLY soft skin now...no more eczema-y bumps anywhere!! Coconut oil is as much a staple around here now as chicken and pecans!! Just my two cents...Or twenty, considering how wordy I am...lol Chrissy mama to 3 boys on SCD 3 1/2 months and thriving! > > http://nourishedmagazine.com.au/blog/articles/coconut-oil-and-probiotics > > Question: Do you know if coconut oil's antimicrobial effect extends to > probiotics? Guest guest
Coconut oil in it's pure form is an anti-fungal. According to what I am reading and have been inquiring about one would have to eat MASSIVE amounts in a concentrated form in order to " maybe " disturb the good bacteria in yogurt and even then it is not a given. Someone was discussing to me the idea of gram negative/positive bacteria playing a role in this. Quite interesting... Now if one takes a supplement like Lauricidin, that is a different story. Guest guest
Coconut oil, is pure fat. This is not considered advanced. It is however tough for some people to intro coconut oil due to die off it can produce that is why slow and steady is the way to go. For instance now during my Alternative Lyme treatment if I have coconut oil it makes all the die off much worse so I removed it and am doing much better! whereas before my body could handle that push. I reckon I will be able to use it in a couple of weeks again. Coconut product like shredded coconut, coconut meat and coconut flour are considered very advanced as it is very fibrous and can produce intense cramps and gas. Not too mention these types of coconut product are not friendly to finicky intestinal scar tissue like strictures. If some people want to intro coconut sooner I think the safest bet would be to try home-made coconut milk and see how one does. When I started out it was told to me to be on the diet for about 6 months before trying coconut products (not the oil) Jodi

Guest guest
Hi Jodi, I found a pharmacy in the UK who ships my vitamins to Italy but they don't have coconut oil either. I haven't found any sources that ship to Italy, if you know of one please let me know.what about a store where they sell foreign/exotic foods in Italy? I love the ldn, I think it's actually doing something for the Crohn's though it's very subtle. what dosage are you on? I'm over the side effects except for the sleepiness. I think it's going to be a good addition to the SCD and hopefully I can begin to add other foods back into my diet.

Guest guest
I googled it in Italian and found some coconut oil diet capsules and coconut oil for the skin. Italians are much more into beauty than health! I'll check out the asian shops, they are very tiny here as there aren't many foriegners. Guest guest
Thanks Yana, I've only seen one organic shop here and it only lasted about 6 months, I think people don't want to pay the prices. There are no Lebanese shops here but I'll try the asian ones. Hi Ann,I'll chime in with hint about coconut oil. I live in Bulgaria and it was very hard for me to find coconut oil here until recently. My chance are new opened organic shops ( organic business in Bulgaria is what would I say in "baby - toddler" stage) , so if in there are shops like these is Italy ( I'm sure there are) may be you will find it. Mine is extra virgin American one (label), made in Philippines. It's very good, I can eat the whole 16 oz jar at once LOL, it's more expensive then the price I see in Internet but it's worth it.And another suggestion - here I found CO in Lebanese shops, but it's not extra virgin and I' m not sure what else is in there.I hope that helps a bitGood luck Yana
