I know Marilyn takes evening primrose oil - or used to anyway. Don't

know about the other two.

Hi Jodi,

My sister did alot of research on GLA and found that borage oil was the best

source. I take the " Now " brand. I find it helps alot with my pre-menopausal

symptoms.

GERDS and chronic C.

Jodi,

I take Carlson's Salmon Oil with GLA soft gels. You could kill 2 birds with one

stone:

use that.. Flax oil goes rancid so quickly (like under a month shelf life)

Mara,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gamma-Linolenic_acid

also;

" Borage oil is one of the best sources of gamma linolenic acid (GLA) (I think

black currant seed oil is best) a fatty acid that the body converts to a

hormone-like substance called prostaglandin E1 (PGE1). PGE1 has

anti-inflammatory properties and may also act as a blood thinner and blood

vessel dilator. Linoleic acid, found in flax oil and other vegetable oils should

theoretically convert to PGE1. Many things can interfere with this conversion,

however, including disease; the aging process; saturated fat, hydrogenated oils;

blood sugar problems; and inadequate vitamin C, magnesium, zinc and B Vitamins.

Supplements that provide GLA circumvent these conversion problems, leading to

more predictable formation of PGE1. "

It is very good news actually I had this test right when I started the diet..

It was terrible.

Some of my ratios were just so bad. Others were perfectly fine.

I am going to look into borage oil.. EPO never agreed with me. Never tried

black current seed oil and I don't even know where to begin to learn about the

processing although I need to look into cranberry seed extract too.

Funny thing: borage oil never agreed with me, but EPO does.

Interestingly, EPO (GLA) was recommended by my oncologist for hormonal

balancing after my surgery.

Be aware that if, for some reason, you take Motrin (ibuprofen), it will

interfere with the action of the GLA, and, apparently, vice versa. Of

course. ibuprofen is not recommended on SCD.

GLA is also good for muscle spasms and aches.
