Guest guest
PJ, Isn’t it wonderful to begin to feel better? I’m so pleased for you – I know! I’ve been there myself, as have all who are on SCD. The diet seems overwhelming at first, probably because we are so ill and everything seems overwhelming. And now it’s become “normal” for you and your family. Awesome news! Congrats on a successful road trip! Carol CD 21 yrs SCD 4.5 yrs From: BTVC-SCD [mailto:BTVC-SCD ] On Behalf Of smdsmom2008 I also just came back for a 4 day road trip visiting family. I brought my car cooler- that plugs into the cigarette lighter with an adapter for the wall plug. For days before I was a cooking maniac making yogurt and also frozen meals. I kept the frozen meals and soup in another cooler packed in the car, and the hotel had a fridge + microwave. (important detail with SCD) in the room. One night we went out to a fish restaurant, and I was able to have baked fish and vegetables cooked plain for me. It went really well. It feels really normal now, and SCD is becoming a habit. My family is really starting to like SCD foods- I usually make other side dishes for them. More important is how I feel, thank goodness. It is really worth it. Guest guest
Hey PJ.. So happy for you that SCD has become more of the norm for you.. Took my family quite a while to come around.. still some are difficult- one family member actually told me the reason I needed bowel surgery and had a mass is due to the diet. I couldn't help but just laugh in her face. Anyway.. keep up the good work!! Jodi
Guest guest
I was a bit worried about my extended family on the trip. My in- laws (the ones in their 90's!!) can eat ANYTHING they want ( and do ) and my MIL loves to cook. I was afraid I would insult her. My mom has serious IBS and is always miserable. She had a diet book that was similar to SCD, similar principles, and she told me diet had nothing to do with her IBS and that the book was useless. I told her it was a good idea and to please consider it. I wish she would. I brought some zucchini soup with me, and my MIL loved it. My mom could not get over the fact that I told her I was feeling fine. She kept asking my DH if I wasn't telling the truth, but I kept saying I do feel better on this diet. So they finally came around My DH is thrilled that I feel better, and my immediate family has been the beneficiaries of all the time I spend in the kitchen making SCD food because they like it and I also make more things for them. I am so very grateful for this diet. So just keep at it. I had experience with a " traveling kitchen " before SCD -- we did it to cut down the costs of traveling. SO that part wasn't new to me. But how WELL I feel on SCD... that's another matter, entirely. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund
