It is a superior product (a doc from Germany prescribed it to me) anyway, sorry to say but Mutaflor is not legal on the SCD. This was discussed a while back on PecanBread. Not only is the bacteria not legal but yes, there are illegal fillers in Mutaflor. Jodi,I remember doing the research and discussing Mutaflor on this list several months back. Regardless of the illegal fillers, ( there are illegal fillers in the Lialda and Tamoxifen I take) why is the bacteria illegal? It has great studies behind it for UC and is used extensively in Europe. Hard to get here, I remember finding an international pharmacy that would ship it but it was extremely cost prohibitive. I do remember having the discussion with Marilyn at the time because I was so excited about it, but very crestfallen about the really high price for the dose that was needed to put UC into remission. I won't be taking it, but I'm curious about any info you might have. Thanks, Terry
Guest guest
Thanks Jodi. It's good to know this, you make a good point about supplements vs. meds. I was just curious as the studies looked really good and at the time I did the research, there was a discussion around the study and I contacted the company who then referred me to an international pharmacy. They quoted me a price that was incredible, esp in light of the fact that the study dose was high and you would need to consume a lot of tabs thereby driving the price even higher. The only thing I remember is that Marilyn was involved with the discussion and we all agreed it was too expensive and hard to get. I don't remember an illegal discussion or I would have never taken the time to investigate it. But, it does make sense that Elaine would feel E.coli is illegal. An interesting probiotic for us to keep our eye on for the possible future, though illegal now, you never know. Terry
