Guest guest
Hello all,I'm off the diet currently - I had acute liver failure last november, potentially attributed to long-term use of pentasa - and i was just too lazy and tired and sick feeling to eat/cook SCD. But I still keep up with the list because I'm going back to the diet, however as I'm currently weaning off of ALL of my meds YAY!!! I've made the decision to finish that process first and then go back to SCD. Regarding that - I'm down to 6 mg of Entocort per day, from 9 mg, and I take one half of a pill of Plaquenil daily, rather than 1 pill 2x daily, so I'm cutting down! Slowly but surely. I'm pretty regular, usually once in the morning and maybe once or twice again in the afternoon/evening, but that only happens 2-3 times a week.Regarding the itchyness - I've been super itchy ALL OVER for about a month now - i'll start scratchy my leg, then the rest of my leg, then my stomach, then my arm, etc. I saw my GI a month ago and all my bloodwork (CBC, glucose, etc) was good, except for my creatinine levels, which were still elevated (3.6?) although down from january (4.2) and november (4.6ish?). I ended up freaking myself out about it being a sign of severe liver failure, but when I saw my nephrologist last week, my creatinine was down to 3.1 and he said that i should keep up whatever i was doing, although he had no explanation for the itching. He also gave me a scrip for an oral antihistamine that i have yet to fill - instead, I've started putting oil on after showers (instead of lotion) and I've been meaning to exfoliate myself with sugar and olive oil, although i haven't because I'm lazy and busy with finishing the summer semester. Either way, try oil and try exfoliating. Obviously, keep drinking a lot of water - if you aren't already. Also, try to take warm instead of hot showers - hot water can dry out your skin. I don't know where you live, but I live in Houston, which is crazy humid, so I couldn't understand HOW my skin would be dry, but it was. And also, have you changed your detergent? Or anything about clothes you wear or things you're around? If your skin is sensitive (and we're all sensitive here in one way or another) you may even be responding to a change in the air, for example if the people who clean your office started using a new spray cleaner - you might just see if anything has changed that you might not have thought about right away. According to what Terry just sent through, itchy palms and feet can be a presenting symptom of Crohn's. http://skindisease.suite101.com/article.cfm/causes_of_itchy_palms_and_solesSystemic causes for itchy palms and soles.Chronic kidney failure, liver diseases, endocrine disturbances like hyper or hypothyroidism, blood disorders including polycythemia vera, Hodgkin’s lymphoma, leukemias, multiple myeloma and cutaneous mastocystosis cause generalized itching; which can, at times, start as itching of the palms and soles. Itching of the palms and soles and elsewhere on the body may be a presenting symptom of HIV infection and Crohn’s disease. Atopic dermatitis, senile pruritus and aquagenic pruritus can present with itchy palms and soles, in addition to generalized itching all over the body.Read more:http://skindisease.suite101.com/article.cfm/causes_of_itchy_palms_and_soles#ixzz0O2kyc4Va

Guest guest
I think that I'll just have to see a doc about it. I don't really like going to a GP because I tend to have bad luck with them taking forEVER to diagnose anything and usually they have to send me to a specialist anyway. I'm not really sure what type of doc to go to though. I do exfoliate and moisturize everyday (especially since going back on pred b/c I don't want MORE strechmarks). I have UC, not Crohn's. Certainly would suck if I'd suddenly gotten Crohn's especially being on the diet this long! My showers are almost always warm and it's been so hot/humid here (DC area) recently they've actually become rather cool. I haven't changed any detergents or moisturizer and the itching mainly happens at night (or wakes me up in the morning) and nothing at home has changed in terms of cleaning products. And again, those would be allergic reactions which would be masked by the pred which is why I don't think it's an allergy. I should be drinking more water (though me not drinking enough isn't something new). So...what type of doc do you think would be best to talk to about the itching? I need to see my dermatologist to get the results of my patch test but I don't think that he's going to give me the answers I need. I do think I need to restart taking a B supplement. I just have to get the stuff first (I've run out). Ah frustration. Oh and Alyssa, I don't know what Urgent Care would have done for me. All I knew was that the itching was so bad I was near tears and scratching, icing, and putting anti itch cream wasn't helping. I figured an urgent care place might have something stronger. Fortunately it did eventually subside and I was able to sleep. Guest guest
Hi Stacey- I had a violent itching attack which was when I was doing Ozone IV's for Lyme disease co-infections. The itching got so bad I had to go to the ER. They just loaded me up on Benadryl and I had to take whopping doses for a couple of days. The Ozone doc said that it was probably due to rapid detox that my liver was having trouble coping with. Also, did you make sure you didn't have like any Shingles symptoms? Did you get any rashes? Guest guest
Jodi, Yeah I figured they might just dope me up on Benedryl. I think that that's actually why I ultimately didn't end up going (or at least the reason before the itching stopped). I don't have any rashes anywhere on my body. And it's not shingles. I've had shingles (worst. pain. ever.) and this is definitely not it. I considered that this might be detox related since I had to restart eating meat when I had to go back to the starter diet recently and have since gone back to being vegetarian. However that seems more and more unlikely the longer I go without eating meat.
