Guest guest
Maggie, the preop class is a class that prepares you for your arrival, hospital stay and departure from the hospital. You will be given this spiral breathing aparatus(spelling) and they will show you how to use it post surgery. This helps get the anestesiology out of your body. You will learn about the time frame to call about reporting to the hospital. I think the window is 1:00-3:30 or something very close to it. They will discuss again the importance of having and taking the vitamins. They will make sure that your advance care directive is filled out and turned in and to answer any quetions you might have. They will talk about the diet phases again and show you the actual size of the containers of food you will be able to eat. Very informative meeting. It is classroom style and will last about 2 hours. This info is in regards to what KP Richmond does. I am not sure what Fremont or SF does but I hope this helps. Guest guest
One More thing. If you are going through KP Richmond, they weigh you...at EVERY apt/meeting and the day of your surgery so please be mindful of that. Guest guest
There are orientations and then regular monthly pre op meetings. They are basically meetings to support you through the 10% loss requirement and make sure you are really ready for the surgery. They talk about issues you are dealing with and give advice. Ive spoken at a few of them in the past.
