I agree with Eleanor, for awhile i stopped doing the protein shakes and my energy went way down and i just simply didnt feel as good as when i do them. Kind of funny french bread and brie cheese might of been my comfort food before surgery but now the protein shakes are like a hug from my mom when i was a little girl, comforting and reassuring............................ who would of guessed..............

Well, this is one question where there is LOT of disagreement. I will share with you what my thoughts are, and how I reached them. When I was researching my own surgery, I decided to find out what successful long-term posties were doing. I mean people who were at least five years out, healthy, good labs, maintaining significant weight loss. Know what I found? The VAST majority of them were doing protein drinks. So I do them.Part of the attitude I have encountered is that we should be able to get all our protein from food. Well, the numbers don't make any sense to me. One person told me I should be eating three ounces of meat, fish, or poultry or three eggs at every meal. This was at a time when my pouch was supposedly approximately the size of ONE egg! This isn't addressing the concept that we absorb some sources of protein better

than other sources. Is the idea that it's okay to burn up our reserves, thinking that we'll restore them later? Sorry, I think that's a dangerous philosophy, and I know too many people who have tried it, and ended up in the hospital with malnutrition as a result.Just my feisty two cents worth!Tammy Whitney wrote:> Hi all, I was told before I had the surgery that we should get enough > protein through food and shouldn't need a protein shake...is this correct?-- Eleanor Ostereleanor@...
