Guest guest
As for dairy-free yogurt starters, I see that the one that GI ProHealth sells has L.casei instead of L.acidophilus. Is this OK? Can we just add some acidophilus to it? Is Custom Probiotics then the only supplier of SCD-legal non-dairy yogurt starter?? Debbie T > > Val > > I just put a page in the group Files that list all the known sources of legal probiotics. http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/BTVC-SCD/files/Probiotics/ > Open it with WordPad or NotePad; I need to put in a html version... There is also a partial list of sources at www.pecanbread.com . And we've discussed this many times here, so you can search the message archives. > > Probiotic supplements that are legal contain only L. Acidophilus for the bacterial strain. Elaine also approved S. Boulardii, which is more of a yeast than a bacteria. There are plenty of other bacterial strains available, with " experts " promoting their use, but most don't have much longevity (to know the long-term damage possibilities). Elaine said no to any strain of Bifidus as it isn't a community-minded strain and can mutate easily, causing more damage to the gut. > > It is almost impossible to find a legal probiotic in local stores. Not hard to order from online sources, however. > > Kim M. > SCD 5+ years > > >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> > ...Does anyone recommend a brand or a way for me to get my Probiotics? Guest guest
I just got this response from GI ProHealth. I also asked their opinion on storing starter and acidophilus in the freezer, because the conventional wisdom has been that freezing probiotics kills them. " You can add the acidophilus after the yogurt has cooled if you wish. Most people will usually take the acidophilus in the capsule form and use the yogurt as well. You can freeze the yogurt starter and it would increase its shelf life of about 1 year. Just be sure only to thaw what you intend to use. Freezing thawing and freezing again will cause the cultures to die " Debbie T > >As for dairy-free yogurt starters, I see that > >the one that GI ProHealth sells has L.casei > >instead of L.acidophilus.
