Guest guest
I'm sure it's one of those " varies with the individual " things. When I had my gallbladder out a few years ago (pre-SCD), I resumed eating everything I had been eating pre-surgery (milk, cheese, ice cream, peanut butter, etc.). I've never had a problem with fats. That's not the case for everyone though. How about trying a tsp or tbsp of yogurt to see how it goes over? If it bothers you, get some probiotic pills to take while things settle back down. Holly Crohn's SCD 12/01/08 > > Hi, > > On September 25th I had my gall bladder removed. It was a painful attack that Wednesday that resulted in a 4 day hospital stay on Morphine. My doc kept running tests to be 100% sure. This is the way the scheduling of the test resources and the surgeon played out. I managed to stay as faithful as I could to the diet. Drinking chicken broth, eating fresh fruits, any meat grilled with steamed veggies. > > I began having symptoms of what I thought was UC sometime the week of September 7th. At first I thought it was the attack a lot of people experience at week 12 early. Then I even upped my Asacol thinking I had weaned off a little too early. Now I am not too sure. There was bloody D. Stomach cramps and a loss of appetite. I have never had a loss of appetite with UC. Believe me, it takes a lot. > > My husband and I were going to take our 16 month old daughter to SeaWorld so, I put off making an appointment with the SCD advocating Dr. (as per the Viscious Cycle website)in my area. The day that we left, I did not drink any goats milk yogurt, though I took some with me in a cooler(we can drive to Orlando in 2 hrs). The bloody D stopped. Cramping because I had to make a BM that was loose and the pain in the upper abdomin did not stop. I held on until Wednesday night and finally gave in when the second attack came on. As per the hospital the duct into the gall bladder was clogged and the gall bladder itself was extremely swollen. > > It has been 9 days sice the operation. Cheese seems to lead to gas and loose BM. So I have not even thought about the goats milk yougurt. Has anyone else had this experience or something similar? What does this mean in terms of me and dairy. I read on the internet that some people found dairy intolerable for up to 8 weeks? Will this pass? How do I get my probiotics? > > Thank You, > Joly > 1600 MG Asacol > 14 weeks SCD tomorrow > Allergic to Caesin(Cows milk) & Gluten >

Guest guest
I had my gallbladder removed six years ago, but learned a few months later that the problem wasn't my gallbladder even though it failed one of the tests which is why my gastroenterologist at the time suggested it be removed. I've done a lot of research into the biliary tree (gallbladder is one of the components) because I was diagnosed with Sphincter of Oddi dysfunction and needed a sphincterotomy; had to learn a lot about the upper GI so I'd understand the process and what triggers the symptoms. Anyway, from my own experience, and my research, you can probably expect your digestive system to take 8 to 12 weeks to recover from the gallbladder removal if you are one of the lucky ones whose body can adapt to the loss. Most people do adapt; statistics indicate only about 10% to 12% don't adapt and get worse, digestively speaking. I'm one of the them, which adds another level to my chronic symptoms, but that's another story.... I would avoid high-fat and high-fiber items for a while. Stick to soft, easy-to-digest foods as well. I'd avoid dairy too (high in fat). You can get an acidophilus supplement to use in place of goat yogurt for a while; there are a few mail order/online sources that provide legal forms of L. Acidophilus. Kim M. Guest guest
I can't say I've had quite the same experience but a few months ago I started having flare up symptoms but it was accompanied with a different kind of pain than the regular UC pain. It turned out to be an intussusception that usually needs emergency surgery (fortunately mine worked itself out). So my advice is not to ignore the pain, especially if it's something you haven't felt before. Stacey > > Hi, > > On September 25th I had my gall bladder removed.
