Hi , It would help us to provide suggestions for travel

food if you could list what you are eating now. When traveling I always take

muffins, brownie muffins, pecan cookies for snacks. Any baked goods has to be

refrigerated (as you know). If you can swing it, take hard boiled eggs, baked

and then frozen chicken, and yogurt (in a jar/s with tight fitting lid) in a insulated

bag. I don’t know how you are traveling. If by plane, someone else may

know if this must be checked luggage or carry on. I’ve always packed the

baked goods among my clothing in a suitcase. And some carry on as well. Pack

some almost ripe bananas that can ripen over a few days. Maybe take other fresh

fruit if you can’t buy it where you are going.

Others will have other suggestions for food. Let us know what

you are eating.

One other thing: Every time I ate a steak at Outback I got D. I

am pretty sure it is whatever “seasonings” are on it. I was very

sensitive to it. After the 2nd attempt at eating a steak at Outback,

I gave up. I’m not sure an unseasoned steak there is possible. Use at

your own risk! I could eat the steamed veggies though. Watch out for major squash

seeds!

That is excellent news that the diet, after only 3 ½ months, is

working to relieve symptoms. You did not explicitly state that, but that is

what I am assuming you meant.

I'm going to be away for 4 nights 5

days for work. I did not tell them about my Ulcerative Colitis, or my diet, but

I did let them know I need a room with a microwave and a fridge in it. I figure

this way I can keep the food I bring cold. We will be going out to eat

everyday, so i'm going to try to pick places that may have something I can eat

such as red lobster or outback steak house... i'll just tell them no seasonings

except salt and pepper.

Any suggestions on food to bring with me so I won't go hungry?

Any suggestions on where I can say I want to eat out that would have food I can

eat on this diet?

The diet has been amazing so far. I am on less than half the meds I was on

before, and almost no more pain!! I've been on the diet about 6 months

super strict.

-

UC - 1 year

SCD - 3.5 months 100% strict and 4 months restricted diet.

Asacol - 4 pills 3 times a day - hopefully scd will help me get off these! No

more Hydrocortisone or Prednisone!

Are you traveling by plane or car? I have a cooler that plugs into the cigarette

lighter in my car. It has been a life saver on trips.

Also- beware the chain restaurants. They usually have items that are

pre-seasoned. I once called ahead to a chain steak restaurant and found that

only the fillets were not pre-marinated. It was more expensive, but it saved me

some misery. Red Lobster is also a chain.

I usually go on line and find small privately owned restaurants that serve fish.

I call ahead of time and make sure my fish is cooked plain, with a little olive

oil. I also ask for plain vegetables. If everyone wants to go somewhere I can't

eat, I bring my cooler along and order some tea or a small glass of white wine

and join them.

I travel with cans of tuna, and a can opener in a pinch. I take my yogurt, but I

have some probiotics in case I need to go somewhere without it. I also try to

find a grocery store and get a bunch of ripe or nearly ripe bananas to keep in

the hotel room. They get ripe pretty quick. Nut butter also travels well.

I'm so glad you are feeling better.

I recently traveled away from home for 1 week. I took lots of yogurt/honey, nut

butter brownies, cheese, cheesecake, squash pie filling, deviled eggs, blueberry

muffins, Stretch Island fruit leather, Dole pineapple juice cans, Welch's grape

juice, and cold chicken. I didn't even need a microwave. Not particularly

balanced, but I just needed something to get me through the week.

I only ate out once, at Outback Steakhouse. They have a gluten free menu to

order off of, so you could get a steak (with nothing but salt and pepper on it)

and steamed veggies (no seasonings added). I'd stay away from Red Lobster. From

what I've heard other SCDers say, there really isn't anything you can get that

hasn't been pre-seasoned with illegals. I'd also stay away from chicken

altogether, as you never know what they may have marinated it in. Steak,

hamburgers, and maybe fish are probably the way to go.

Good luck!
