Guest guest
Hi Marilyn, I don't know if this might be helpful for your area: the doctor who started helping me deal with the GI yeast, adrenal and other issues is a family medicine MD who is also a DAN doctor. He still maintains his Primary practice, actually works for a local hospital, and then consults to do the holisitic, out of the box stuff with patients like me. And, he takes all kinds of insurance. Were it not for the DAN network, I never would have found him for myself. Any chance there's a DAN MD in your neck of the woods who might be helfpul for you ? Guest guest
Sue, That sounds like a genius idea for many of the people on this list who have doctors who haven't a clue about SCD and are wanting them to do all kinds of stuff to the contrary. My DAN doctor for my sons is a DO, not an MD and runs a family practice. He is wonderful, very open minded and quite informed...plus he is willing to consider being wrong and going off to look something up or find someone who knows more than he does. Rare in a doctor, IME. Any of you could go to him for help with blood work, coordinating meds with SCD, what have you and find a friendly and knowledgeable audience. He has his son, who is moderately autistic, on SCD for nearly 2 years now. That might be worth pursuing. Anyone who is interested should go to generationrescue.com (maybe org, I can't remember) and they have a list of DAN practitioners for each state. FWIW, you know. Guest guest
On this link, http://www.autismwebsite.com/practitioners/us_lc.htm in my location, I see a few types. How do I know which is a GI? (and probably in NY they won't accept insurance).
Guest guest
> Quick question - that's the acronym I meant to ask about (but forgot, > obviously) - what does DAN stand for? > Stacey Stacey, It stands for Defeat Autism Now--these are MDs who use biomedical treatments for children on the autism spectrum. Guest guest
, I live in Indianapolis and his practice is in a small town within the city boundaries called Speedway (about 2 blocks from the IMS, where they run the Indy 500). He is great and I am sure there are other DAN! doctors around the country that are in his position, i.e. he had a normal family practice before his son was diagnosed with autism and in the years following the diagnosis he learned about biomed treatments, got his kid into them, learned about the diets, did all the work to become a DAN! practitioner as well and now he does both the normal practice and a weekly autism clinic with hour long appointments. Since I was one of the first moms to contact him after he got into the DAN! thing I managed to get all my boys on the hour long appointment list from now on...score for mama!! He determined, with a rueful laugh, that the younger two didn't seem to have any autistic tendencies but they were way too complicated and fancy for a simple 15 minute appointment. Also, he lets me ask endless questions and will talk to me on the phone about my concerns for an hour...I AM NOT KIDDING. He is the BEST. Dr. Justus is the KEY to my confidence that my children will get better and better and that my son with ASD has the best chance possible. I am not a particularly religious sort but I seriously thank God for him on a daily basis. Soooo, if you go to him you can tell him that some crazy woman named Chrissy sang his praises!! Maybe I can get a referral kickback. LOL Chrissy mama to 3 boys on SCD 3 1/2 months...thanks to Dr. Justus!
