Guest guest
Hope that helps. Thanks Joe for the information, I will try to acess this group and join it. I feel as though this may help. I really hope I am one of those people who no longer desire the junk after surgery. Kathy pre op 5/01/01 if approved Dr. Elariny
Guest guest
Kathy: There are several aspects of your problem. Many get the RNY specifically for the dumping syndrome in hopes that will cause them to develop an aversion to sugar. Unfortunately, or perhaps fortunately, some RNYs never develop the dumping syndrome. Others have it for a year or so and it goes away. So they are left with the same old cravings and no dumping to offset it. The RNYers tend to retain the same cravings they had before the surgery. With the DS there are a lot of patients who report a major shift in their tastes. I have never heard this adequately explained but have heard many express it. And I have found it true to some degree. There are some no-nos that I find I simply don't particularly enjoy any longer. And sweets are among them. I could eat lots more than one cookie at a sitting but I no longer want to. Before the surgery I felt cheated if I only had one BAG of cookies. I have to admit, however, that this is NOT sufficient to make me not sabotage my surgery. I probably won't be able to but I'd prefer that there be no question about it. So I have started a mailing list here on Yahoo called WLS-OArecovery. This list is for those who feel a need to practice the emotional and spiritual aspects of the OA program. To be sure I had the exact wording for the group correct I just checked " my groups " and it is not shown. When I enter it into the Yahoo search it shows the group. Yet when I try to access it from the Yahoo web site it says that no such group exists. Hopefully this will be fixed shortly. Now that I think about it I haven't gotten anything from the list since about 8:00 PM yesterday evening, and this has been a very active group recently. So if you feel that an OA approach to your cravings might be appropriate then this group might be for you. You are welcome to come and lurk for a while if you would like. Hope that helps.
