Guest guest
Hi, I'm a newbie here, have been reading this forum for about two weeks. My health challenges are Sjogren's Syndrome (autoimmune attack on salivary glands and tear ducts plus possible systemic issues) and Myositis (autoimmune inflammation of muscle fibers that causes muscle wasting). I was prescribed the GAPS diet by Dr. Tom Cowan a month ago and am finding it informative to read this list as well as GAPS Help. Re: the question on shelf life of GLA oils,Mountain Rose Herbs is a good source of many oils, with info on each. See webpages for full info. Web info refers to bottled oil. I don't know whether gel caps prolong shelf life or not. Much depends on how it was stored. But for best results I'd personally start over with fresh oils. http://www.mountainroseherbs.com/learn/oilprofile/borage.php Borage Seed Oil Profile Botanical Name- Borago officinalis Origin- USA Extraction- Cold Pressed/Unrefined Shelf life- 3-6 months Kosher Certified- Yes Notes- This particular oil should be kept refrigerated and away from natural and artificial lighting. No additives, preservatives, antioxidants, or other foreign agents have been used or included in the manufacturing of this oil. Suitable for food and cosmetic use. Certified organic by OTCO. http://www.mountainroseherbs.com/learn/oilprofile/eveningprimrose.php Organic Evening Primrose Oil ProfileBotanical Name- Oenothera biennis Origin- China Extraction- Cold Pressed/Partially refined Shelf life- 6 months Kosher Certified- Yes Notes- This particular oil should be kept refrigerated to help prolong shelf life. Black Current Seed Oil http://www.newdirectionsaromatics.ca/black-currant-seed-carrier-oil-p-1375.html Shelf Life: Black Currant seed oil is slow to go rancid; users can expect a shelf life of 6 Months to 1 Year with proper storage conditions (cool, out of direct sunlight). Refrigeration after opening is recommended. Marilyn, How stable is that oil? I bought some in capsules a year or two ago, and never finished the bottle and wonder now if they are still viable? Guest guest
I've used fatty acids for a couple of decades. I have always been allergic/reacted to EPO, used borage oil for a long time, then had troubles with that, now use black current oil. All seem to work about the same IMHO. I don't know. Guest guest
Hi Nina in MA, I have low DHEA, Testosterone, Free Testosterone same for Progest and Estrogen as well as many nutrient deficiencies Zinc, Mag, Calcium, Selenium and the list goes on and on. I have a hard time with supplementation therefor I get nutrient IV's the problem is I have been dedicating more time for my alternative Lyme treatment so I don't get as many of the regular IV's. Now that I have Mercury poisoning and need to do chelation we must figure out a way to supplement me. I am sensitive so I haven't tried the sex hormone creams. I am worried that it will make me sick. I started Borage oil a while ago and that seems to of helped. Did you get sex hormones checked? Important to do blood work at 17 days post period -time of month.. Jodi > When you say you have low sex hormones, are you speaking about Est/Progesterone? Or DHEA/Testosterone? I have very low DHEA and Testosterone and borderline low Estrogen/Progesterone. Do you supplement any of the sex hormones? > > Best, Nina in MA >

I take borage.. Do you take all 3? Did your oncologist say to choose one or have a variety? I though Borage would be the safest with the SCD and it seems to be the most bioavailable. Guest guest
Hi Holly.. Interesting how different people react differently. I too skipped the week off of birth control for years.. This is when my periods got bad.. so this was the suggestion. My GI symptoms would get better than whammo- would show their ugly head.. so the brand of birth control pills would be changed. I did this a couple of years. I ended up coming down with awful ovarian cysts which at a certain point (some docs still do btw think I have PICOS now- this diagnosis is in question and I haven't pursued it as I have more pressing issues) The pain would start out for a few days then would graduate to about 2 to 2.5 weeks out of every month (on the pill) It was excruciating and I was debilitated. The Crohn's would flare so bad. At a certain point I just decided to stop all birth control. The cysts got worse for a while and I was in a lot of pain but I decided I was in pain on the pill so I rather be off it. This was the same timing I had an allergy to Remicade and it stopped working for me. Anyway- a while later I found the diet and went gluten free as a result and the pain went away. But, I totally stopped getting my period. I went on the pill due to not getting my period at all. Then my Thyroid was adjusted and together with the diet I get my period like clock work. In the past thyroid was tinkered with.. never did anything to get my period. I am convinced that I have some kind of Gluten/Grain issue as when I cut this stuff out all of this reversed. Amazing how our chemistry is so different- yet both you and I needed surgery.. need this diet etc.. Incredible! Jodi
