Guest guest
I think I may have been lying down (or > slightly elevated) with my legs split apart so the surgeon could work > from the bottom. I didn't experience any numbing sensations, etc. and > I'm not sure if this is due to different positioning or not. > > all the best, > /Postopppers I am having a brain spasm at the moment and can't remember what the name of the cuffs are that the doctors put around your legs for minimizing the risks of blood clots during (and after) surgery. Those cuffs effectively reduce " leg cramps " by increasing blood flow through the legs correct? I believe they do but just had a thought after waking several times with what I equate to " vein cramping " in my legs. It actually feels like my veins are contorting and I wouldn't call it muscle cramps. I have been diagnosed with venous insufficiency which I am sure has only worsened since my diagnosis 2 yrs ago. I believe I mentioned this to Dr. Herron when I consulted with him (LAST YEAR!) and he said the cuffs handle it but I just wanted to recheck. I would hate to think that I am subject to waking during surgery due to circulation problems/ " vein cramps " (they are pretty damn intense). I use props in bed to elevate my legs but that is not always effective (and quite often kills my lower back because it shifts the weight down my legs, landing on my back). Then there is always the trick of sleeping on my side with my legs propped up on the pillows, and don't forget the lovely sleep apnea garb attached to my head. Adjustng during the night and flipping to the other side is a gymnastic event! JEEEEZ, I am so glad I don't have to look at me during my sleep! ROFL Am I ready for surgery or WHAT? LOL!!! Guest guest
Sondra: what you are referring to are called sequential compression devices or " SCDs " . They are power operated " stockings " that massage your legs to promote venous circulation thereby reducing chances of getting a DVT(deep vein thrombosis/blood clot) in your legs. Hope this helps, LISA > I think I may have been lying down > (or > > slightly elevated) with my legs split apart so the surgeon could > work > > from the bottom.
