Guest guest
I talked to Glo yesterday and she is having her surgery on May 21st. They will remove the entire thyroid and follow it up with radioactive iodine treatment to make sure they get it all. They will wait to see if that works before they go ahead with any other options such as chemo. She is on-line researching everything she can find out about her condition. She sounds pretty upbeat but doesn't she always. Dave was doing the laundry while she was talking to me. She has a great husband and support up the wazoo. Her 2 youngest kids do not understand how serious the situation is but her oldest son is not doing very well with it. I sure know how I would feel in his shoes. With the involvement of her lymph nodes and the cancer spread into her chest cavity it is going to be a long hard battle to fight. I pray that she has enough strength to win this battle. Once I worked for the American Cancer Society, and one of the patients we helped told me one day, "Don't you ever worry about losing weight, honey, I weighed 300 pounds before I got cancer and if I had not have had that extra weight I would never have survived". I told that story to Glo and she laughed and said "Well, I just might make it to the cover of people magazine as the skinniest fat chick with cancer." She asked me how I was doing, and I hesitated to tell her how much weight I had lost as I did not want to rub it in that I got my surgery and she did not(supposed to have her WLS the day after mine) but she persisted and changed the subject back to me everytime. She was very happy for me. I just love this woman. She is a once in a life time find. I met her on-line during our research mode and have been in contact steady. I pray that God will keep her in the palm of His hand and keep her safe. Just thought I would update you on what is going on. I will let you know next month after her surgery is over.
