Guest guest
Hi , Over at GAPS (a protocol/diet based on SCD) they discuss depression every now and again. GAPS stands for Gut and Psychology Syndrome. They use illegals in their diet but I have incorporated many ideas into my regiment (all legal, no exceptions) The Doc who developed GAPS really comes from the brain side of things- treats many with Autism Spectrum Disorder and allows illegals such as bifidus. So just proceed with caution, in the sense be aware that there are tweaks and nuances. I think proceeding with that info at hand you may find some camaraderie! I know there are quite a few people over there that go back and fourth with this question about depression meds. Some of those class of meds can be good for digestive ailments (some GI's prescribe it these days) So I am unsure how it can effect your CD. Guest guest
My daughter, , is on Lexapro for anxiety. She's 14 and has celiac disease and has been on the SCDiet since October 1 of last year. We did see a big improvement in her in the beginning of the diet. but she stayed on her anxiety meds and is still on them. Inositol is a natural anxiety supplement that she takes when she's really nervous. We're still though dealing with anxiety which has been going on for at least 3 years with her. At that time we found out she had celiac disease and went GF and it helped her anxiety. but never fully took it away. Then a year ago, her anxiety was over the top. She missed 3 months of 8th grade. She was put on this diet and was back to school within 2 months. She was doing ok for 5 months and then in June, anxiety hit again. If you have any suggestions for her, let me know. Lexapro doesn't seem to do much. It makes here dizzy and not able to concentrate at times and she feels like a zombie. We actually had to bump it up recently when school started. So she's at 15 mg a day. I hate being tied down to this pill. I realize it helps me but if the diet is just as good if not better, then that would be great.Crohns 10 years
Guest guest
Marla, Adults I've known who take SSRI's all agree that everyone is very different in how they'll react to a given drug. Have they tried a different SSRI drug for her ? Also, are you able to see someone who specializes in psych drugs for kids ? I mean to ask rhetorically---these are issues I've gleaned from being on lists of parents with kids on the autism spectrum .. Also, my DD's developmental pediatrician (also a great MD to use for kids with mulitple issues) suggests parents try fish oil (she recommends Nordic Naturals) which she finds really stablizes mood issues. It does take 3-4 months to see the effects, however. HTH, Sue R

Guest guest
Hi , The SCD will help your gut to heal. I don’t know if it will allow you to get off Lexapro or not. I recently learned that people with bowel disease don’t produce much in the way of endorphins. I myself have suffered with depression all of my adult life. When I found out about the endorphin/bowel disease connection a light bulb went off and I had an ‘Aha’ moment. I learned this while researching Low Dose Naltrexone (LDN). Many people are using LDN for their auto-immune diseases. It is an immune-modulator and helps the body to produce endorphins and endorphin receptor sites. I have been on LDN cream for almost 3 months. This is the best I have ever felt.
