Livers can actually regrow, so he would donate part of his liver to his sister and both partial livers would grow to their normal size. , Mom to 18 yo daughter UC 6/95, PSC 3/09To: Sent: Monday, April 6, 2009 10:15:41 PMSubject: Re: Prayer needed

Lori,Hi!  Ali's brother is alive and well.  Some PSCers (and other liver patients) can use live donors.  The liver is a self-regenerating organ.  So, once testing is completed to determine a match, a portion of the donor's liver is placed in the recipient's body.  Then both livers regrow back to the needed sizes.  Does that make sense?Sandi in VA

Lori,Hi!  Ali's brother is alive and well.  Some PSCers (and other liver patients) can use live donors.  The liver is a self-regenerating organ.  So, once testing is completed to determine a match, a portion of the donor's liver is placed in the recipient's body.  Then both livers regrow back to the needed sizes.  Does that make sense?Sandi in VA
