I am a big protein eater and my diet has more fat in it than most people so I chose a surgery that would malabsorbe fats. I wanted to be able to eat all foods including occasional sugar, in short I want to live normal. I want decide what to eat and when to eat it. Also I am not a chewer with the DS I can eat some tough cuts of meat and know that nothing will get stuck. If it weren't for the fact that I eat less food, I would not know that I even had surgery. So, here it is No dumping No chewing to a pulp No food getting stuck Bigger shomach malabsorb fats No marginal ulcers No weight re-gain (back to pre-op weight) High average % of excess weight kept off (70% 9 years out) Anytime you go through major changes like massive weight loss, you should get support. Some people do very well without it, but for most the are many issue specific to surgery that we need to address. egroups are a very good way of supporting and getting support anytime we need it 24/7. I see a therapist as well, to address issues like changes in relationships, self esteem and emotions. Good luck with the RnY, that is a good surgery too.
