Guest guest
Hey lady, I was watching a video called Disease doesn't Just Happen. It was incredible, as she went thru auto-immune diseases, cancer, allergies, etc. The main theme is that disease is caused by 3 components. Malnutrition, Dehydration and Stress. Our food has only minor amounts of the nutrients we need--between processing and over-utilization of the fields--the vitamins and minerals are virtually depleted. Our diet should be more of raw vegetables and juices--with the least amount of processing. Most of our juices we purchase thru the grocery stores have High Fructose Corn Syrup as the #1 ingredient. This has no nutritional value--and only adds insult to injury- as most of us can't tolerate sugars due to the prednisone treatments. The juice in most frozen juices is only 10%! So, if you can use fresh fruit and squeeze your own-- you're so much better off. Dehydration is a huge issue, and if you're not getting enough fluids, then weakness, dizziness, fatigue, seizures, kidney and liver failure can occur. If water isn't your thing- then get ahold of some Herbal Peppermint or Herbal Chamomile teas (decaf!) as caffeine is a dehydrator. Stress sends the "fight or flight" hormones into play- and that turns on the immune system. If our immune system was in sync--that would be ok--but for us, it means that our immune system will attack our healthy cells, changing their structure, and now the changed cell can't function like it should. I know that once I stopped using dairy products, and cut back (I'm working on cutting out-) sugar, and get rid of the salt--that my inflammation has come way down. That combined with my medications is what is getting me back inline. It's going to be a long process, but I think it'll be worth it. So- Raw veges (steam brocolli, cauliflower, kale), fresh fruits, home juiced when possible, and see how much it'll help. Guys, this is so important. We've been told for years to suppress the immune system, and that may be what we need --but we also need to feed ourself correctly. I know how hard it is--when you're exhausted, you don't feel like doing anything, especially cooking or making meals--so we pop a frozen dinner in the microwave and consume huge amounts of salt with those choices. Inflammation is caused when our lymphs are so loaded with sodium (along with our joints and ligaments) and the sodium claims the fluid we drink-- causing swelling, causing inflammation and pain. It's only when we start eliminating this, that we bring down the inflammation. (BTW, it's working for me!) You do have to be careful with changing to a diet of fresh and raw veges-- because you will detox and those toxins have to somewhere--so it is a balancing act. But even small changes may bring huge results. Take care, Tracie NS Co-owner/moderator

Guest guest
Tracie, there is a website called www.watercure.com that is very interesting. I'm not sure I buy into everything--it kind of reminds me of the snake oil cures in my grandparents' day--but definitely some validity. Guest guest
Boo about the sugar; I get this great trail mix at Target that has dried papaya, pineapple, dates, raisins, apricots, almonds and cashews. I usually have a serving per day - do you think that is too much sugar? I am having a hard time finding something that sounds good and have really enjoyed it. Guest guest
Rose, I cannot stand cooked greens with vinegar - bleh. It was something I was raised on and cannot stand it now. We used to have it with a ham hock and fried cornbread. I love the okra too - except I like it fried and pickled. No boiled okra - it looks like a pot of snot. I love my other veggies though. Just right now I am having a hard time finding things I like to eat. I don't know if it is from meds or what but unfortunately with my choices of food, I am not loosing weight. Oh well - you can't always get what you want can you? Well, gonna go. Terri G.
