Hi. My beautiful and insightful wife just gave me a URL which links to an article which discusses what happens when everything goes wrong with this surgery. It specifically refers to the RNY but nothing in the article would be any less likely to happen with the DS. In fact the problems that the author had are very similar to those that I had.

I hesitate to post downers here on a support group but I (like my wife) feel it is important to know everything that can happen with this surgery, the bad as well as the good. I especially ache for those who weren't in a coma. I didn't know about much of anything but my family suffered having been called to come to Portland to tell me their "goodbyes."

In spite of all that I'm glad I had the surgery but I have to say I had no idea what sort of illness short of death was possible. If this is your last resort and the option is dying from the coming co-morbidities then definitely get the surgery. But get informed. Those who are willing to read some truth can go to the following web site.
