I can answer a few of your questions but not all. I can relate to your health deteriorating. I experienced everything you have gone through but a couple of things I experienced which you might do well to avoid were type II diabetes and congestive heart failure. And I would point out that the DS surgery, and to a lesser extent the RNY, will CURE all of those things. Hard to believe, I know, but it is really true.

Basically all the DS surgeries are pretty much the same. There are a bunch of names but if they have DS on the end the only variations will be in what they take out along with the DS (gall bladder, appendix) and what combination of sutures and staples they use to put things back together. And those variations have nothing to do with what they call their surgery. My surgeon called his the Lateral Gastrectomy with Duodenal Switch. Same thing exactly as Bileo Pancreatic Diversion with Duodenal Switch (BPD/DS).

Far and away the best place to find out about the surgery is www.duodenalswitch.com. There are tons of other places, many of which are linked on that site but specifically try www.mywls.com. That is Heidi's site and is excellent.

As to surgeons in Pennsylvania, go to the DS site and click on physicians. I don't believe there are any in PA but check there to find the closest ones. I know there are Pennsylvania patients out there and I hope they'll chime in. Good luck on your quest. Don't expect to hear much negative about the DS versus the other surgeries here on the DS list. We are all pretty sold on it.

Hi My name is Pierce, I also live in western PA.

I have been calling almost every Dr. office I can and

so far there is not anyone in the state of PA that

does the DS that I can find. If I can help you at all

let me know. I called Dr. Hess's office in Bowling

Green, OH. I got all the listings of Dr.'s in the

state that are on the National board of Bariatric

surgeons. NONE of the do the DS. Hopefully I can

help with any other Questions you may have.

there's not very many, so you might have a problem with finding one

like i am.. and then getting insurance to pay for it..

Hi ,

I'm from south central PA and had the BPD/DS in NYC at Mt. Sinai Medical

Center (4 hour drive from here.) My physician is Dr. Inabnet -- he

works in a practice of four doctors headed by the well-known Dr.

Gagner. Good luck with your research.

Your welcome, I hope that you are approved. I know insurance issues

can be frustrating as I am in the middle of my own.. my insurer put

it in writing that they cover it.. but they wont approve me.. i have

had enough now and will be bringing legal action. Dr. Baltasar is

excellent as well I understand.
