Guest guest
Lenny, The Pfeiffer Treatment center pharmacy will be compounding a vitamin supplement for my son next week. It will contain, among other things, B6 (300mg) and 5P5 (60mg). Connor is very sensitive to Phenols, so your comments have me quite concerned. First, I gather from the recent posts that there is disagreement over which of these B vitamins is a concern with phenol sensitive children. Could you, or anyone else, point me to some resources for learning more. What was your experience with 5P5? Did it cause hyperactivity by itself, or make the reaction worse when your child ingested a highly phenolic food? Also, what is the dosage of Molybdenum that you give to help with phenol problems? Thanks so much for your help!
Guest guest
, We did 5p5 from Kirkman lab long time ago and discontinued in a couple days. Same story with SuperNutera. Both of them drove my baby up to the walls. She was really bad. Thou we didn't know why. The answer came with phenolic issues. It looks like phenolic guys have bad reaction to B6. First, we manipulated with the dosage of B6(no mega doses - that's not for us) until we found a compromise. At the same time we added malybdenium to supplements load and beans to menu. Now she seems tolerate B group just fine. My favorite site on phenols is a compilation made by Dana http://www.autismchannel.net/dana/phenol.htm Conclusion: I would give vitamins separately to have freedom to manipulate the dosage. As to molybdenium if you decide to go this way: a) it must be chelated, 30-75 micrograms a day for 3-6yo c) must be at least 2 hrs apart from things like zinc, copper, celenium etc. My baby is 5yo and gets 50 mcg daily. Hope it helps. Lenny. > Lenny, > > The Pfeiffer Treatment center pharmacy will be compounding a vitamin supplement for my son next week. Guest guest
Thanks Dana, I am going to see if Pfeiffer would be willing to separate out the 5P5 from Connor's vitamins so that I can watch that one more carefully for a reaction. I realized after my original note on this issue that he is taking vitamins NOW which contain B6 but which do not contain 5P5. Since he handles this B6 well, I am now only concerned about keeping an eye on the 5P5. Thankyou. Your site is amazing, by the way!
