I am not going to get in a pissing match with Deb about Dr Ren. I can only say that Dr Maquire has found similiar problems with patients and reacted the EXACT same way that Dr Ren did. Jackie is a recent patient of Dr Maquire that this has happened to. Dr Ren advises all her patients that this is a surgical risk. It may be something new that she does since the surgery with Deb Mullins. Dr Ren does not speak about her actual case with Deb Mullins with her patients. She has not broke Dr/Patient confidentiality. When a patient asks about Deb Mullins, Dr Ren does not discuss the case but says how unfortunate for her. After all the negative things that Deb has said about Dr Ren, the thing that surprised me was Dr Ren asked how she was doing. Concerned about Deb.

Dr Ren is not being investigated, check it out at:

New York State Board for Professional Medical Conduct (Discipline)http://www.health.state.ny.us/nysdoh/opmc/news/01/main01.htm

I subscribe to this and receive bi-weekly updates in my email and have been keeping up to date on this issue.

As far as the nurses go at NYUMC, I have not one complaint. Everyone talks about how bad they had it at Mt Sinai. All the people I have talked to, and there are many, find Dr Ren to be personable, thorough and very concerned about US.

My DH would like to say a few words about Dr Ren. I will turn it over to him:

My name is Bob.

Starting 6 months ago, when my dw talked about having WLS, I thought in the back of my mind that she was totally out of her mind. That I married her like she was and saw no reason why she should change. But seeing that it is not my body or my health, I sorta went along with everything she explored. Even after finding out a lot of what this surgery entailed and all the positive things that I had heard from other people I must tell you that this whole thing scared me to death. I was just starting to get used to the idea, when by total accident, I read a most disturbing post, which put me back to where I was 5 months prior. I must tell you all, that flying to NYC was the hardest thing I ever had to do. And let me tell you folks, I have been through hell, you see I have had open heart surgery and also served in Viet Nam and of all of these things the thought of losing my new wife, scared the hell right out of me. We got to NYC and went to see Dr Ren. Immediately upon meeting her in the outer office, I knew that she was caring, professional, and above all took the very care of her patients most seriously. When we got back to her office, she sat us down and explained to us step by step procedure by procedure everything that would/could happen during this surgery. I will tell you this, she knew how scared I really was. And made sure that I understood that she would not take a chance with my wifes life. She told me point blank, "I am not a gambler, Mr Viau, I do not even go to the casino. I sure will not gamble with your wifes well being in any way. If in any way this becomes to risky I will abort everything." And from that point on, I knew we had found the right doctor. I have never met a doctor that called me from surgery and apologize for taking so long in an operation. Because she knew I was terrified. She not only called me, but sought me out later to talk to me and reassure me that everything with my wife went exactly as planned. I can not say enough about Dr Ren. She will always be an angel in my book. And all I can say is that there is just not enough doctors like her. Now Debi, and anyone else wondering about Dr Ren, I cannot guarantee that your surgery will be perfect or that you will get everything that you want out of it, but I can guarantee you this, that Dr Ren will make sure that she does the very best job that anyone can possibly do for you and that her staff and the nurses at Tisch Hospital at NYU will give you the best care possible. And as far as the people in the hospital and in the surrounding areas of the hospital I can not say enough how well they treated us. So to end this epitath, All I can say is Dr Ren Rocks!

Actually, Dr. Maguire did a straight Scorpinaro BPD on Jackie and she is doing great. I understand that this wasn't the procedure performed on Deb.
