Dear Debi,

I am having my Lap BPD/DS surgery performed on April 26, 2001 by Dr.

Ren. She is an extremely bright and skilled surgeon and a really

nice person to boot. I have done extensive research on her

credentials, which are impeccable. She was Dr. Gagner's very well-

liked surgical fellow before being asked to head the surgical weight

loss program at NYU (an extreme honor for a young female surgeon)

She doesn't have alot of posts on the obseity help.com because she is

newly on her own at NYU. If you look through Dr. Gagner's patient

list, Dr. Ren assisted and performed alot of surgery. Of course, Dr.

Gagner's name is listed, as it should be, as he was the lead surgeon

and Dr. Ren, the fellow.

Dr. Gagner just published a research paper jointly with Dr. Ren and

continues to research the BPD/DS with her. I have only heard the

loud voice of one patient who was unhappy with Dr. Ren. I have not

come across one other unhappy patient and believe me, I looked.

Dr. Ren is available and answers your telephone calls and e-mails.

Ask her directly about any concerns that you may have.

Best of Luck.

Deb may be only one patient, but it was a pretty big complaint. Yes,

Dr Ren appears to be a skilled and competent surgeon, but what makes a

surgeon is how they handle decision-making in an unforseen urgent

situation. In Deb's case, it appears that she flubbed in a pinch. No,

I am not a Dr Ren patient, but I've worked with many surgeons. I am

not implying that Dr Ren is a " bad " surgeon at all. I just would not

want her doing a snap decision change in my surgery unless it was an

option that had been previously discussed, and it was discussed with

my health care proxy. Any surgeon can be skilled and competent during

routine expected situations.. its the actions they choose during

unforseen complications that makes them great.

Just my .02,

Liane
