While I am new here, I remember going through all of the doubts prior to the surgery. Do I really need surgery? Is there another way?

You deserve this. You have worked for this, and you will get through this. We are the privileged. Those of us who have come through all of the testing and the pros and cons to surgery. Embrace that.

Just remember...Your pouch is a tool. It does not fix emotions. It does not keep you from eating "bad" foods. My pouch allows me to eat anything I want except for ham. So, I have gained weight back, by eating little bits all day. Do as I say, not as I do.

I remember crying prior to surgery, because I felt I didn't have enough co-morbidities. Now I cry because I am having troubt honoring my pouch.

Be careful. Choose wisely, starting with your surgery. And...ask any questions along the way.

I hope I have been helpful.

Then I think of all the pros and cons and really, thin feels and tastes a lot better than anything I could ever make.I'm still confused about the all protein issues..to powder or not to powder? I know of a great deal of success using powder protein but old "Richmond" disapproves so vehemently... That Isopure sounds interesting, a clear protein drink? My other question is, if we can't have "bubbles" how can you drink a shake? Thanks in advance,Maggie

Hi Maggie. What you are feeling is completely normal and many people

feel very apprehensive about deciding to have the surgery. If this

is the right decision for you, it'll pass and you'll feel confident

when you go in for surgery. I, too, was very unsure whether or not I

should do this or not. By the day before my surgery, I was

completely at peace. When I walked into the pre-surgery unit on my

surgery day, I was completely at peace. Dr. Baggs told me that

attitude was half the battle and I was ready. I was ready and I

know, for me, it was the best decision of my life. I only wish I

would of asked my PCP about it sooner. I'm a month out now, down 28

pounds, and feeling wonderful.

You'll make the right decision for you...just give yourself a little

time to process all and talk, talk, talk...to people on this board,

to friends, to family, to whoever.

Good luck (and congratulations)!

Absolutely!!! Take advantage of your :honeymoon period. Dont tempt

and test your pouch with what you can get away with. Trust me its

better not knowing that you no longer will dump with sugar, or that

you can eat more of this or that.....really really try to follow the

rules to the letter.

You said it ! The " honeymoon " period is the easy part. As

any long-term " Postie " will tell you, maintenance is the hard part!

Never forget that the surgery is done with a scalpel and not a magic

wand, and that it's done on our stomachs, not our brains (or hearts)

so you must find a way to conquor the " head hunger " issues.

A couple of years ago, I was trying to figure this out myself. I decided

to take a look at what successful longterm posties were doing. I mean

people who were at least five years out, healthy, and maintaining their

weight loss. I found that the vast majority of them were doing the

protein drinks. Hm, if I wanted their results, maybe I should try doing

what they did.

I've tried the Isopure, and I don't like it that much. For me, it leaves

almost a slimey feel on my tongue. It's also pretty pricey, and I don't

like having to worry about breaking the glass bottles. I use powders

(usually Champion Nutrition's Pure Whey Stack in chocolate flavor). For

travelling or work, it's easy. Measure a serving worth of powder into an

empty water bottle (Propel bottles are great, because of the bigger

mouth) and throw in car, purse, desk drawer, whatever. When ready for a

shake, add water, shake, drink, toss the bottle. How easy is that?

The way I make shakes doesn't create bubbles. I think they mean

carbonation, and there isn't any of that.

Hope that helps. You are an adult, and will have to make your own

decisions. I am, I did, and I'm glad.
