I don't know if it has to do entirely with carbs because I was on a totally protein-intensive diet in the first three weeks. When i went for my three week post-op, I had lost 15 lbs (and that was without hardly any carbs at all). Now, I include more carbs but still focus on protein. I think it could be the protein... not in a bad way at all. I think that, by eating protein one is ensuring that one's muscles (which weigh more) are not consumed as a last resource. I would much rather retain my muscle mass and lose slower than otherwise. But, I know exactly what you mean - it's being rather paranoid that one WON'T LOSE IT ALL. I've felt like this at times, too. Sure, I don't mind losing slower if it means that I'LL eventually LOSE what I need to! But, the gnawing thought is that I won't lose what I need to... I have come to realize that my body really fights it --- I will lose quite a bit of weight (sometimes an entire half a pound or a pound) from day to day and this will go on for a week at most. Then, my body puts the breaks on and I stay at the same weight (or go up by anywhere from 2-5 lbs) for a few days or a week (could be more in the future with major plateaus). Then, all of the sudden I start 'shrinking' again! LOL I mean, if you feel you're eating too many carbs, by all means try to cut back... But, really I don't think you need to necessarily do that. Eating high protein snacks won't hurt you, I think (like peanuts, etc.). I have recently gone through a real weight loss period and now I think (hope??? LOL) I have more faith in the procedure and the process. I'm now about 42 lbs less three months post-op, which is within the average range, I believe. I wasn't sure if I'd make it to 40 lbs by this time... I kept hitting plateaus, etc. So, keep the faith and by all means if you're hungry - eat! Try to focus on high protein stuff and I really don't see where you can go wrong. all the best, lap DS with gallbladder removal Dr. Gagner/Dr. Quinn assisting/Mt.
