Yes, this is legal. It is also called Avicel ( brand name ) It is fine to use as a filler for SCD.

Having Ibuprofen compounded can I use microcrystalline cellulose

Hi,I am getting Ibuprofen compounded for my son on SCD. I am just getting ready for our next illness/fever. The pharmacy can compound with microcrystalline cellulose. I don't know what that is or if it is legal? They told the doctor they have a few things they can compound it with, but they didn't list what they had. Can someone please guide me in a direction?Thank you so much!! And good luck to all!

Hello Lorynn,

I don't know why your son is on SCD, but I just wanted to tell you that in

Germany, Doctors tell you to never take Ibuprofen if you hace UC or CD as it may

cause a flare or worse.

Just wanted to be sure that you know about that.

Just be aware that Ibuprofen and other NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory

drugs) are not advisable for those of us with Crohn's or Ulcerative Colitis.

Acetaminophen is the pain reliever of choice for adults with Crohn's, UC,

etc.

However, individuals on the ASD spectrum may react to acetaminophen, and

therefore, for them, ibuprofen is the pain reliever of choice.

But NSAIDs, in general (ibuprofen, etc) are contraindicated for Crohn's,

UC. etc.

I get several things compounded (including Ibuprofen) and my

compounding pharmacy always used Avicel, at least for me. There may

be other things for other people but I've never had trouble with this.
