Hi,

The receipe wasn't mine, I had copied it from another list. To tell you the truth I don't know why she specified a self-cleaning oven if you didn't have a dehydrator.

I haven't made jerky yet, but I have used my oven to dry fruit before I got a dehydrator. I set the oven at a very low temp. about 200 or 250 degrees. The length of time it takes to dry the meat would depend on the thickness. You would have to keep checking until it is as dry as you want.

I have also used the microwave to dry things, you have to use a ridged pan, like what they make for bacon.
