Your doctor would have to order the test. You stay overnight at

a place that does sleep testing. They hook all kinds of electrodes up to you to

monitor your heart, blood pressure, breathing, etc., so that they can tell if

you stop breathing for a moment periodically through the night. If you do, you’ve

got sleep apnea. The monitors can tell how serious it is. My husband has it; he

wears a C-PAP mask every night which forces you to keep breathing during those

moments when the apnea wants you to stop.

Dear Marilyn,

How is a sleep test done, perhaps it is available only in

developed countries, my doctors never recommended me anything like this,

I am very sure I have the sleep disorder or sleep apena, and have been using

antidepressant (Amytryptiline) and sleeping pill (Clonazepam)

together since 3 years. My doctor prescribed me these 2 meds saying

that the normal sleeping pill alone does not help in my case and that is

why a mixture of 2 is needed.

I also dream of going drug-free one day, but

impossible, that might do more harm than good esp for those with high BP, as

high BP is a silent- killer, so even if I stop other meds , I can never stop

the high BP med.

Not necessarily. One thing I strongly recommend to anyone dealing with high

blood pressure and/or high cholesterol is to have a sleep test. Hidden sleep

apnea can cause both of these things. And when the sleep apnea is properly

treated, the blood pressure goes back down and often, the cholesterol

normalizes, too.

http://www.cpap.com/downloadVideo.php?VGID=58

is a link to a video which will tell you about having a sleep

test.

www.cpaptalk.com

is where you can ask about sleep apnea, and get information about things

which might be available in your country.
