Guest guest
I had a lap DS on 2/28/01. I did not suffer from nausea the first few weeks, but have had it on and off for about the last 3 weeks. I now realize that I am dumping. If I eat anything with a medium to high sugar content (including milk), I will get nauseated and sweaty and I will need to lay down and moan until it passes. I have tried a small amount of sugar on a non-empty stomach and it still happens. I called Dr. 's office last week and spoke with his nurse. She said that since I am only 7 1/2 weeks post-op my new tummy is still adjusting to everything and that this will most likely pass. She said that if it continues for " a while " , I should call again and perhaps see the doctor. Well, I am in Chicago and the doctor is in Atlanta, so a trip is not likely. Have any DS post-ops experienced dumping early on (or ever since surgery)? Did it go away? What if it doesn't go away - is there anything that can be done? Any info would be greatly appreciated. in IL Dr. Lap DS 2/28/01 -38 pounds
Guest guest
Hi, I wouldn't exactly call what I do " dumping " but I do feel bad if I have too much sugar. I get a headache & feel nauseated. First of all, I try to eat only sugar-free or " no sugar added " stuff. But when I was about 4 weeks post-op, I went to TCBY & got a parfait with vanilla yogurt & whip cream. It wasn't sugar-free & I got a headache, felt nauseaus & just bad all over. It passed after an hour or so. I'm 11 weeks post-op now. A few nights ago, my niece was making some chocolate milk. Well, I wanted some too so I made a small glass. It made me feel really yucky afterwards. It was very sweet. That was the first time I have had it since surgery. I can eat some sugar, but I try not to eat too much at any one time. Dole makes some really good " no sugar added " juice bars. They're not the " fruit & juice bars " , just the juice bars. Hope it passes for you. Cheri > I had a lap DS on 2/28/01. I did not suffer from nausea the first few weeks, > but have had it on and off for about the last 3 weeks.
