Hi Lynette...I attended a support group after my consultation with Dr.

Gagner on April 21st. My mom also attended with me. The meeting was being

run by , the nutritionist, and it was stressed that it is a meeting

that addresses post-op problems and questions. As we were admitted on the

basis of " observer only " , I was not surprised that when I asked a question,

and people started to respond to it, interrupted and reminded me that

the meeting was supposed to be for post-ops, and since there was limited

time alloted, I'd have to save my questions for another time. Even so, I

found that the meeting was very informative, and the people seemed to care,

although there were a couple of people who tended to monopolize the

conversation. This did no bother me at that point, because I was interested

to hear all points of view, but I can see how it could be bothersome in the

future. Hopefully, there will be a way to solve the problem soon.

my mom, who wasn't at all sure the surgery was a good idea, had started to

thaw a bit after meeting and questioning Dr. Gagner. After the support

group she came to the same conclusion that I had...the people who were

doing this were not quacks or nuts, they were caring intelligent people who

had found a way out of a bad situation, and found a new way of life. I hope

you will not sour on the support groups...it is so easy to have stumbled in

on a bad night.

Also, on the 1st monday of each month there is supposed to be a question

and answer meeting for preops...unfortunately...I was scheduled to attend

the May meeting, but my back went out...and later on I heard that no one

showed up to lead the meeting (it is supposed to be one of the dr.s)

Hopefully, this was an accident and next time it will be ok. Maybe you

could try that? At any rate, don " t give up

because of a few bad eggs...there had to be others at the meeting that felt

as you did...If you find each other it will be a whole new ballgame...Chin

up! See you at the post op meetings after the big " switch "

denise in N.y.
