Guest guest
I've read many conflicting accounts on what the weight limit for lap surgery is. I'm assuming each surgeon is different? Or is there a general rule of thumb to follow? Some say 300 lbs. is the limit for lap. Others say a certain BMI is the limit, this makes more sense to me. A person who is 5 " tall and 300 lbs. would have a higher BMI than say a person 5'9 " tall and 300 lbs. How can a surgeon say 300 lbs is the limit when someone very tall may not be as big as a shorter person at 300 lbs? I wonder if it makes any difference on the lap limit depending on what type of WLS you have, the RNY or the DS...does anyone know? I'm sure the skill of the surgeon is another factor. A less skilled surgeon would probably be very conservative on his/her limits for a lap procedure.
