I like it too, but am not using it now as I caught a sale, from vitalady,

on Champion pure whey stack and got lots of that, so that I could avoid

shipping and handling. Will probably get more complex after I have

finished with this. LaWanda At 05:33 PM 6/19/05, you wrote:

Maggie--I sometimes mix my Pro-Complex powder with the low carb

yogurt, and it's not bad, plus I get the feeling I am actually

eating something instead of drinking the protein.

Chocolate Pro Complex is the only protein powder that I use for the most of

my protein grams. I make mine with just water and a couple of shots of SF

Peanut Butter Syrup. I feel that it is worth the extra cost. I have lost

97.5 since my surgery on 12/29/04. I think this has truly helped my weight

loss go so fast!

Well Tammy, I know what the Richmond program says, and I have to say I

disagree with them. It's interesting that the SSF and Fremont programs,

as well as Pacific Bariatrics, who trained a lot of those folks, are in

favor of the protein drinks.

You are (presumably) an adult, and will have to make your own decisions.

I will however share with you my experience. When I was researching my

own surgery, I decided to take a look at what successful, long-term

posties were doing. These were people who had had their surgery more

than five years ago, who were healthy and maintaining their weight loss.

I found that the vast majority of them were doing protein drinks. Hm, if

I want what they got, maybe I should do what they do. It has clearly

worked for me.

\I know the Richmond program seems to think that malnutrition is okay

for the first few months, because the goal is to lose weight quickly. I

STRONGLY disagree with this! It is far easier, and healthier, to keep

oneself healthy and well-nourished than it is to build up the bodies

reserves of things like protein, calcium, iron, etc., once those

reserves have been depleted. I also fail to see how I can eat enough

protein during the three meals a day (NO more, according their very

strict guidelines) to give my body enough. Beth said I could eat three

ounces of meat, fish, or poultry, or three eggs at every meal, and that

would fill my needs. THREE EGGS?!? At a time when my pouch was the size

of one egg? That doesn't even include the fact that we absorb protein

from different sources differently. It is MUCH easier for our bodies to

absorb protein from the whey-based protein drinks than from meat.

Like I said, you will have to make your own decisions. I personally

drink the protein drinks. I know how I feel when I do, and I know how I

feel when I don't. Do they make me fat? If you were to see me, you'd

probably think I was THIN, except for my thighs. That is the only place

I have any appreciable excess, and that is just NOT going to go away

without plastic surgery. Makes my choice very clear to me!
