Hi

I can tell you that they have a water aerobics class, because my daughter is their aquatic director and she along with another woman teach water aerobics. To date i have not yet done any of those classes, I actually just got a bathing suit a few weeks ago, I did have one before and it was somewhat suitable for a class like that, but as i lost weight it didnt fit, and it was to open in the thigh area and it was tighter over my lower belly and it made the suit all gappy , if that makes any sense....................i think weight watchers is a good program because it sort of tracks you and causes accountability...............something we will be dealing with for life really......................They have people that are helpful and also they have darn good reciepes and hints on things to eat when you are at your wits end that are not too bad in calories.

Hi-

I had my surgery on May 25th and returned to my aquacize classes

this last Friday. It feels wonderful to do something other than

walk and the water pressure really helps reduce bloating and fluid

retention. I did a lot of aquacize before surgery and found that

the classes were very diverse at my California Family Fitness Gym,

so that I felt comfortable about participating. As far as

swimsuits, my favorite ones did not have a skirt b/c it tends to get

in the way, and were designed so the shoulder straps did not slip.

Good luck.

I had my surgery one day before you (5/24/05). I also returned to

water aerobics on Friday at California Family Fitness. It was great!

I actually plan on going at least 5 days a week to do the different

classes, at least for the summer, because I get overheated really

fast and walking just gets plain boring to me!

You are almost my surgery twin! (I was in Richmond though).

Not to rain on your parade, but did you get a release from your surgeons to do water aerobics? The reason I ask is that when I hurt my knee, I assumed water aerobics was very low impact...but actually the drag and resistance that the water creates is rather extreme, and it would be akin to lifting more than 20 lbs...which is something you aren't supposed to do until 4 to 6 weeks after. It may be just fine for you guys to do it...I'm just worried you may get hernias from the resistance. Perhaps you should just double check with your docs, if you haven't already?

Not trying to be a know it all...just worried about you!

Hi Colleen,

Wow, I guess you will just have to get a new swimsuit. I've always have loved to swim, and would really like to be smaller so I could do this more often without feeling embarrassed. But, I would like to use that membership, and start taking a class this summer. Thanks for thinking of me.

Hi All-

When I saw Dr. Umbach for my two week, he cleared me for aquacize.

I asked him specifically and he gave me the go ahead. I also asked

him about the possibilities of hernias and he told me I was an

extremely low risk for this complication because of how he performed

the surgery. I hope I am not being naive. Obviously, follow your

own doctor's instructions.

I specifically asked Dr. Baggs about Water Aerobics and he said the

only thing I couldn't do was abdominal crunches and if I lifted over

20 pounds and it hurt, stop. He said I could lift weights too!

I might just call and double-check though because now you have me

worrying.

Thanks Robynn!
