Guest guest
Flu season is here. I know some people are not in favor of vaccines, but I'm not in favor of the flu either. Has anyone had problems after a flu shot? ( adults, not kids) I've never had before. Thanks, PJ
Guest guest
I just wanted to chime in with an alternative view of the flu shots since most of the responses have been about how bad they are and how they don't work. When I was in high school I came down with the flu really bad and it eventually lead to bad reactions with my UC and put me in the hospital. Since then my doc required me to get the flu shot every year. Best. Decision. Ever. I haven't had it since (and since I work at a University, I think that's quite impressive). I've never had any reaction. The dead virus will not give you the flu. I was on prednisone for the looooongest time and had to be sure that any vaccine I got was dead otherwise I'd be infected (which is why when I went down to South America I wasn't allowed to get the yellow fever vaccine). I have a friend who has an allergy to something in egg so she makes sure never to get the flu shot...even if she can eat a little bit of egg and be okay. I think that's a safe decision for her and I think keeping myself from getting the flu is a wise choice as well. When I get sick I get really sick (read: I don't get a cold, I get whooping cough or shingles...fun! ) so keeping myself healthy in any way that I can is the right choice for me. Heck, that's why I'm so strict on this diet, right? heheh...plus UMD already has over 200 cases of a really contagious strain of H1N1, it's only a matter of time before it reaches my Uni since we're so close. Hope everyone is feeling healthy!! Stacey
