Guest guest
Isn' t that a lovely subject line! I have a question that may be gross to some, but here it goes. I had my DS on 2/28/01 and have lost 55 pounds since then. I am very pleased with my weight loss so far and between weeks 8 and 11 my energy level was as good (if not better) than pre-op. Starting a little less than a week ago, my BM's (which have not been solid since surgery, but had been getting better), became VERY watery. I WARNED YOU that this was gross. Well, since that time I am also getting weaker. I keep drinking a lot because I am concerned about getting dehydrated. They are VERY watery and I can go A LOT! I am physically feeling like I did at 3 weeks post-op where I just don't have much energy and everything is an effort. My husband and I are supposed to drive from IL to PA for a dirtbike race over Memorial Day weekend and if I don't get stronger, that will be hard. I am also concerned about being at an outdoor race and using a port-a-potty. That is really gross. Has this happened to anyone? What could cause this to happen? Should I call my doc and if he gives me something for diarrhea, can it slow my weight loss? Thanks, everyone! in IL Dr. Lap DS 2/28/01 -55 pounds

Guest guest
: I have had diarrhea off and on since surgery. For a while it seemed like my bowels would NEVER wake up. And then they woke up with a vengeance. I will even now, 5-1/2 months out, have two or three day bouts with pretty significant diarrhea. And between times things are pretty much pre-surgery normal. Unless it gets to be a real problem to live with or if it persists beyond a week or so I wouldn't worry about it. But the doctor probably can give you something that will take care of it. For me Fiber-Con has been the absolute best answer. Regards. Guest guest
Talk to your surgeon. The suddenness of your symptoms is troubling. You may have a bacterial infection in your intestines. Often Metronidazole(sp?) is prescribed for this. I'm not speaking from my experience, only from what I have read and picked up from reading about post-op problems.
