Positive for Leaky Gut Syndrome

Hi All,

Originally in May I was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease. I read about SCD as

encouraged by a Crohn's support group. Got the book, joined this wonderful

group and began the diet on July 28th and all is going as well as it can go, I

suppose. I am still quite tired and fatigued all the time. I had a second

opinion with a new GI and he has placed me through more tests and has determined

that I have Leaky Gut Syndrome. I don't know if this means I do not have

Crohn's as original GI said. His office person called me with the test results

and gave me the following information in which I am purchase these items:

C-Cure 2 per day with breakfast, lunch & dinner

Superdophilus 1 in the AM for the next 6 months

Uva ursi extract 2 twice a day

Does anyone have any experience with any of the above, any illegal stuff going

with these? And where I can I get some good information about Leaky Gut

Snydrome, I know so little about it. I googled it and am getting a lot of

advertisement sites. Any help is appreciated, as always!

Thanks,

Holly O

Hey Holly O,

SCD totally helps leaky gut.

Wow a GI that uses supplements- kudos.

You should list the name with a link for your supplements..

We have to also look at the additives and fillers in supplements and not just

the active ingredient.

I am unsure of your probiotic and what bacteria is in it.

Uva Ursi is something I would defer to Kim M or Marilyn to comment on.

According to this website;

http://www.umm.edu/altmed/articles/uva-ursi-000278.htm

They only use the leaves for medicinal preparations..

I don't know what C-Cure is. I know there is a brand called SeaCure made from

white fish that is supposedly good for Crohn's and leaky gut.

But as an FYI.. it's best to start the diet without supplements. Doing the

intro diet and than slowly adding key supplements in if you choose to. More and

more I feel the people getting the best results are really supplement free.

Thanks to all who replied!

Katy- I have read BTVC, but only once, I've been meaning to read it over.  I need to move this up on my priority list.  I did do the intro for 5 days and then gradually added cooked veg/fruits.  I am now doing raw veg/fruits.

Jodi- Below are the links to the supplements.  I can purchase these at a local health store, any idea if they are legal?  My new GI is awesome!  He is totally supportive of the diet, it was such a relief to have support.  If anyone lives and/or is interested in the PA / MD area I can give you his name.  I did misunderstand the C-Cure thing, you are right it is SeaCure that I am to be taking.  I'm a little frightened by the Uva Ursi link that you placed in the prior email, the GI's assistant made no mention of the 5-day thing, I'll have to call the office again.  Thanks for the advice on doing SCD supplement free, I've not totally made up my mind that I want to take these supplements, I've become quite anal about what goes into my mouth.

SeaCure http://www.propernutrition.com/component/option,com_wrapper/Itemid,52/

Contains: Pacific Whiting (Cod), Rosemary Extract, Gelatin Capsules (gelatin, glycerin, water)

Superdophilus http://www.uaslabs.com/sections/products/product_detail.php?product_id=1

Contains: Vegetable cellulose, Rice Maltxdextrin, Magnesium Stearate

Uva Ursi Extract http://www.herbspro.com/32350/UvaUrsiExtract.htm

Contains: Certificed Organic grain alcohol (49-59%), distilled water, vegetable glycerine & Uva-ursi extracts)

Any comments are welcome regarding any of these supplements!
