Hi Joann,

It is my understanding that the lap part is for the laproscopic part

of the surgery which are the small (about 1 inch) incisions (I have

3, my sister has 5) where they put their instruments in. The

assisted part is where they have to put their hand, probably in order

to handle the stomach, and to measure & reattach the intestines.

That incision is about 4-5 inches. It's usually just large enough

for the dr's hand to fit through. Hope that helped.
