Guest guest
Hey .. Healing on the SCD is not a linear process. We go through stages of illness/wellness. Elaine talked about people flaring at the 3/6/9/12 month lines on the SCD. Some people flare around those times. I had major falres during those times and in between as well. This can be attributed to die off cycles of bad bacteria. Elaine was really smart as she knew healing takes time. Six weeks is not nearly enough time to know if the diet is working, undoing all this damage from the Standard American Diet.. That is why we need to stick to it for 2 years- fanatically adhering. Take it one day at a time. Do your best. This diet totally pays off!! Seriously, with where I have been- I should know. So many of us really. What are you eating these days? Did you do the Intro diet? List your foods that you consume and one of us can help you figure out if you might be irritating yourself somehow. It's a work in progress going through the first year on the SCD. Relapses can be common as Marilyn always says.. it's one step forward 2 steps back.. that is EXACTLY how it worked for me.. and then one day it was like " Ohh my god.. I am doing so much better than I used to " Hang in there! Jodi

Guest guest
Thanks so much Jodi. I guess its the " this diet is not for everyone, and one will know after 4 weeks " thing (its in the book!) that makes me question as symptoms seem to be increasing as opposed to getting better. Remember when I started I had none. Anyway your words are good encouragement to keep going. When I started I did not do the intro since I did not have symptoms. After about 2 weeks I was feeling like I was eating way too much fiber with fruit and veggies replacing bread and starch, so I pulled back and did a 3 day " intro " . I have now been more moderate on the fruit and veggies, and the staple of my diet is; eggs scd yogurt with honey scd banana bread chicken fish ground lamb/beef steak cooked carrots cooked zucchini dry curd cottage cheese legal cheeses almonds (moderate) dried mango (moderate) salad greens (moderate) cooked spinach (moderate) pears/nectarines/blueberries/pineapple (moderate) Maybe the latter 5 are too advanced? But if I can't eat a salad then am I really getting healthier? BTW I have always enjoyed a balanced and healthy diet, eating mostly organic and whole foods, so not sure if I started from the typical american diet.. Thanks again! > > Hey .. > > Healing on the SCD is not a linear process. We go through stages of illness/wellness. > > Elaine talked about people flaring at the 3/6/9/12 month lines on the SCD. Guest guest
, I think you should start out with the intro for a day or two. Everything is suppose to be peeled, seeded and cooked for awhile. So all fruit and veggies need to be prepared this way. That would make salad out for awhile. There are lots of veggies to try so by thinking that you need to eat salad to get healthier isn't right. The food needs to digest properly to get healtiher. I think you had to of had symptoms or you wouldn't need the diet. Maybe your just looking at no d or constipation. I would try the diet for months before saying it didn't work. I think it will work for you. So start with the intro and add foods one at a time and see if your body gives you any symptoms. The things that jumped out at me from your food list is almond flour in the banana bread is advanced. Nut butter is easier to digest at first, then add in the flours and the nuts. Dried foods are very advanced because they are concentrated sugar and fiber. Cooked spinach should be okay if you don't get symptoms from it. Maybe keep a food journal of what you eat and your symptoms if any. www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info has alot of information on it for you to look over. Glad you found the list, ask any questions, someone can help you. Elaine basically put that in there because there were plenty of people who insisted that a month was long enough. After all, if you take a medication, in theory, you know if it works within a month. (Which is why I now shake my head, reading about medications which can take months to have effect, and people are content to wait for medications to take effect, but confused because the food we eat can take time to let our bodies heal.) It's undeniably true that some people have almost instant success with SCD. Those people, alas, are the lucky ones. I'd been ill for around 26 years when I started. I wasn't expecting miracles. I just wanted to feel somewhat better. I felt enough better that I continued... and my journey has, in and of itself, been a miracle. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund
Guest guest
Thanks to everyone; Jodi, Marilyn, Holly, , for the advice and support! I will see how it goes to get 'back to the basics' again. Will let you know how it works out.. Someone mentioned that I must have had symptoms when I started, why else would I start the diet; well, I was in a prednisone induced 'remission' after a big scare and 3 nights in the hospital for major bleeding, 3 months ago. The heavy drugs got things under control quickly and kept them there, and I hoped the diet would be the help I needed to keep things quiet after coming off the pred. If I look at the big picture I am not doing too bad, I just fear, of course, how those little sneaks of symptoms can snowball so fast... Did I mention before my hospital scare I was making plans with my hub to try to get pregnant? Another reason now that I am anxious to be 100% symptom free! Thanks again.
