Hi-

I had my surgery in SSF on May 25th and felt really proud that I

only hit my button a couple of times, mainly when I was preparing to

get out of bed and was afraid it might hurt. Then I found out that

there was a constant drip as well, so even when I didn't push there

was some in my system. Oh well...

You might want to save a bit of Vicodin for the visit when you have

your staples removed. Although a person who had WLS the same day I

did told me her staple removal was a breeze, I was glad I took a

dose before hand, because a couple of the staples were a bit

stubborn. It wasn't bad at all, but it was nice to have something

take the edge off. It's funny though to read about how careful the

surgeons were about putting on butterfly bandages and taking care of

the wounds b/c Dr. Umbach just slapped on a couple of gauze pads and

secured them with what felt like 10 feet of paper tape. I looked

like I had been bandaged by a three year old.

Good luck with your continued recovery - mine has been very

uncomplicated so far :)

Oui, ma cherie merle, you have staples. Trust me. I was lap too,

and had eight staples in the five half-inch slits. The only post-op

discomfort I felt (Hooray for Lortab!) was if one would snag on my

shirt, so just keep band-aids on them. I had mine removed two weeks

out. They actually use a staple puller (What else?) that looks like

it came from Office Max. (LOL!) BTW, the slits are virtually

invisible today, unless you know where to look (unlike my new

entim incisions!).

Happy healing!

I had no staples and I was Richmond as well. Unless you are talking

about something inside.

Hi again-

My surgery was done laproscopically and I had five small incisions.

One had one staple, and the other four had two staples each. Dr.

Umbach in SSF removed them at two weeks with an instrument that

looked like a pair of scissors. It grasped the staple in the middle

and bent it down, causing the ends to lift up. I was really afraid

that it would be a staple puller, which triggered my fixation with

Vicodin. The actual process wasn't that bad although there was

minor discomfort with a couple that had healed too well. My main

complaint was that he then noticed some puss in one of the incisions

and proceeded to squeeze it like a zit - HELLO! It was attached to

me and still tender.

It sounds like each surgeon and/or surgery is different, so it will

be a mystery until you change the bandages.
