Guest guest
I've had the freeze dried fruits from Trader Joe's, and think they're okay when nothing else is added. Be very careful not to overdo it though, because a lot of fruit is used in making one lightweight bag. Holly Crohn's SCD 12/01/08 > > Are these legal? The ingredients say it's just the fruit, nothing else. I found some yummy freeze dried apples, bananas, strawberries & blueberries. Wondering if I can give them to DH. I'm assuming it's ok, but wondering if there's maybe something about the freeze dried process that I don't know? > thanks, > Devorah >

Main thing you have to worry about is if they used dextrose or something as a processing aid. (Dextrose is technically legal, but it is typically derived from corn, and some people, like myself, react to it. But I don't react to citric acid, which is also derived from corn... go figure...) The other problem is that because they sooo crunchy and delicious, it's easy to to eat WAY too much fruit. A quarter cup of dried fruit can be equal to a whole cup or more of fresh fruit. A third problem is that you don't know if the bananas were fully ripe before being dried. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund
