Guest guest
I stumbled upon the DS as a possible alternative to MGB and RnY, and as I read the web pages and jacked into this group, I became convinced that it was the only way for me to go Me too Steve, I was on the mailing list for the MGB and was serioulsly looking into that one, it seemed so good. But I was going to have the RNY if I couldn't have the MGB, I just happened to come across a woman's web site who was having the DS and was very interested by her saying that her stomach was going to remain more normal than with the RNY. I was very impressed by this and looked into it futher. To my amazement there was a DS surgeon in my own state ( our beloved Dr. E ) and now I am more than ever convinced that the DS is the ONLY surgery for me. Of course if the DS were not available I would have the RNY as opposed to staying MO for life. Kathy Dr. Elariny June

I have been helped tremendously. I am sure that my surgeon was much more comfortable in treating me because of the relaxed and informed way that I brought up my issues with him, and that was a direct result of all that I had learned on this list. Post-op, on the companion lists, I was reassured more by my fellow post-ops about the swelling of my abdomen, than by my surgeon. In fact, my surgeon was surprised to the point of thinking of ordering a CAT scan when he saw my distended belly, and I reassured him that many good friends on the list had experienced similar things--belly went down the next day as soon as i resumed taking my diuretic. I learned about ADEKs as a tailor-made vitamin supplement, and how to get them half-price (www.cff.org), and Devrom for odors, etc. So, loads of collective knowledge, wisdom, support and loving care get exchanged on this list and the companion DS post-op list, and your contribution is valuable and adds needed perspective to the pool. Good luck in pursuing your choice of the DS. I stumbled upon the DS as a possible alternative to MGB and RnY, and as I read the web pages and jacked into this group, I became convinced that it was the only way for me to go. I am indeed privileged to have a superb surgeon just miles away and an insurance coverage (Federal employees' GEHA) that recognizes the DS. So many others on this list must struggle against the System to get theirs. I hope that your struggle gets you what you want, and that good folks on this list can help you along the way. Guest guest
I work for a company with many hospitals and centers and has private insurance. One of the hospital provides RnY's, they gave me the same song & dance, but that was after they refused compeletly and tried to scam out of the whole thing. I told them that the DS is a better surgery and I would not need to be in surgery for staple breakdowns etc..... But they would not listen. I got Walter and Lindstrom (Obesity Law) to be my advocate. Legal seems to be all they really hear anymore. You may want to consider this avenue. Teri
