Welcome, Jane,

We are all amateurs here, and we each try to share the best info and

to reveal our deepest feelings in order to help each other out. I

have been helped tremendously. I am sure that my surgeon was much

more comfortable in treating me because of the relaxed and informed

way that I brought up my issues with him, and that was a direct

result of all that I had learned on this list. Post-op, on the

companion lists, I was reassured more by my fellow post-ops about the

swelling of my abdomen, than by my surgeon. In fact, my surgeon was

surprised to the point of thinking of ordering a CAT scan when he saw

my distended belly, and I reassured him that many good friends on the

list had experienced similar things--belly went down the next day as

soon as i resumed taking my diuretic. I learned about ADEKs as a

tailor-made vitamin supplement, and how to get them half-price

(www.cff.org), and Devrom for odors, etc. So, loads of collective

knowledge, wisdom, support and loving care get exchanged on this list

and the companion DS post-op list, and your contribution is valuable

and adds needed perspective to the pool.

Good luck in pursuing your choice of the DS. I stumbled upon the DS

as a possible alternative to MGB and RnY, and as I read the web pages

and jacked into this group, I became convinced that it was the only

way for me to go. I am indeed privileged to have a superb surgeon

just miles away and an insurance coverage (Federal employees' GEHA)

that recognizes the DS. So many others on this list must struggle

against the System to get theirs. I hope that your struggle gets you

what you want, and that good folks on this list can help you along

the way.

Best,

Steve
