Guest guest
One possibility is viral-induced gastroparesis. Has your daughter had a gastric emptying study (GES)? Gastroparesis is a disorder of the stomach, means the emptying muscles aren't working correctly. Some patients experience more vomiting than nausea. There are several causes, one of which is viral. Good thing about viral-induced gastroparesis is that after a few years it often vanishes and the stomach returns to normal behavior. I have gastroparesis as part of having Sphincter of Oddi dysfunction; "failed" my GES twice. Fortunately for me nausea is my main symptom and not vomiting. But I'm also in a gastroparesis group, and most deal with chronic vomiting. They have to work out which foods are best-tolerated, and/or take a variety of meds. that help with stomach motility and nausea and upper abdominal pain. There are meds. that help with stomach emptying, which reduces vomiting. There are also procedures that can be done to the pyloric sphincter. Just a possibility. Kim M. Guest guest
When my oldest son was 7 he contracted the chicken pox. It was a normal case, but then within 2 weeks he began having intestinal spasms and vomiting. It was pretty much like true infant colic, beginning only in the evenings around 6-7 p.m. and continuing off and on through the early hours of the morning. Although there must have been discomfort, I don't think he was in real pain as he didn't show any normal symptoms of real pain like white pasty skin, or cold sweats, fainting, etc. It was a roller coaster ride of ever increasing squeezing discomfort. He could even tell you that he was going to vomit and there would be plenty of time to get to the toilet or get a bucket. He still had a fairly normal appetite and played normally too. He was in and out of the hospital and doctor's office here in the UK trying to determine what was wrong. Over a holiday in the US (a few weeks after it all had begun) a doctor prescribed a strong medicine for the spasms. After he took it once or twice, it never happened again. Is it possible your daughter is having a type of spasm? Amelia

However, I wouldn't rule out stress, necessarily. Stress can do some mighty weird things to one's body. I think a lot of us here know that from very personal experience! (And it need not be really heavy, despressing kind of stress, either; possibly something a person is not even very consciously aware of, and it can still cause some serious symptoms. Example: I have a sister who is experiencing frequent heart palpitations. She's had every test known to humankind related to her heart, et al, and they've found nothing. She herself is noe concluding it's stress related. The only stress she's under is actually fairly pleasant: her son the contractor is building her and her husband a new house! n
