Guest guest
Hi Debi! Well, I can see you've already had a few opinions offered. As a patient of Dr. Ren, and since I'm having my surgery in just five days I thought I'd offer my two cents. You've already read my opinion of Dr. Ren and her staff if you've read the ObesityHelp.com site, but I can always find more to talk about, lol. First, for Ms. Mullen's claim that Dr. Ren has talked to patients about her case, that hasn't happened with me. In fact, I asked Dr. Ren about her and, although she answered every one of my questions, she didn't divulge anything regarding Ms. Mullen's surgery. Basically she explained that if she found my duodenal bulb to have insufficient blood supply and went ahead anyway, I would most surely develop gangrene and a peritoneal leak which can be quite deadly and she would NOT risk my life. My question for her, " What are the chances this could happen to me? " Her response, almost zero (there is always a chance of anything, even one half of one half of one percent is a chance), the intestine is incredibly well vasculated and the chance of there being a poor blood supply in that exact area of the gut are very small. It came down to the simple fact that I felt whatever had occurred in Ms. Mullen's case had nothing to do with the skill, experience, or knowledge of Dr. Ren. As for me, having worked with many surgeons I know that gastric surgeons are practically obsessed with blood supply, that they do everthing possible to preserve it. The characterization that any gastric surgeon would cut willy nilly through the gut without identifying landmarks or checking blood supply is ludicrous, and NYU wouldn't make such a surgeon head of their department. There have been claims that this never happens, which are not true. And what IS true is that patients who end up back in surgery due to a leak caused by a gangrenous gut are patients who did NOT have a good enough blood supply. You will prolly get some mail from an individual with the e-mail address of Happy2knowU2@.... This person wrote myself and others harrassing e-mails opposed to Dr. Ren. I'm not sure what her deal is but in the last one to me she said I " deserved what would get. " So don't be surprised if you hear from her too. Above all, make your own decision, take what you know and do with it what you can. If you'd like, call Dr. Ren and talk to her about your concerns. She's incredibly warm and sincere and she really cares. If you can, go to the appointment and meet her and her staff, as they say, the proof is in the pudding. Best of luck, Barbi Dr Ren > Has anyone used Dr Ren at NYU ? I called her office and found I could get a consult within days, which I thought was a little strange. I just checked her page at the Assoc. for Morbid Obesity, and found only a few posts...one of which was horrible ! Any info would be greatly appreciated since my appt is for next Wed. __________________________________________________
